SHALLOTTE -- Missing several starters and facing a Southwest Brunswick squad which hammered it just two days earlier, Wayne County North perservered to earn a 10-7 victory on Thursday night.

Starting pitcher Josh Frederick pitched 61/3 innings before giving way to Jimmy Kearney, who earned the save.

Frederick went 2-for-4 at the plate. Hunter Newsome added a pair of hits including a two-run homer.

"To have to play three nights in a row and to get a win last night, that's impressive," said Wayne County North head coach Jabo Fulghum. "We lost to that group 16-2 on Tuesday and our guys didn't quit."

Wayne County North (19-10 overall) advanced to the Eastern N.C. State Tournament this weekend at the USA Training Complex in Cary.
