Kinston smacked three home runs in the first three innings, but Frederick claimed a 10-6, series-opening victory Thursday evening.
Brian Juhl, Nick Weglarz and Jared Goedert all went yard for the K-Tribe, who lost just their second game in second-half play this season.
Jason Denham's fifth-inning, RBI single put Kinston ahead 6-5, but its bullpen couldn't hold the lead.
The series continues today.
