Rosewood wins in Babe Ruth action

Derek Neal earned Most Valuable Player honors and Rosewood achieved perfection with a 12-2 triumph over Eastern Wayne Blue in the Wayne County Babe Ruth 10U baseball tournament championship.
Neal pounded out two hits along with Trent Marquard and Ethan Chapin. Nick Neal, Stalen Massengill and Blake Dean contributed one hit apiece as Rosewood finished with a perfect 13-0 record.
Marquard fanned three EW Blue batters in four innings on the mound, while Nick Neal threw the fifth.
Tanner Wells, Michael Wiggins, Lee Daniels and Dylon Newsome each cranked out one hit for Eastern Wayne, which concluded the season 9-4.
Collin Nix fanned five Rosewood batters, but endured the pitching loss.
The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
On the 12U scene, fourth-seeded Northeast upended second-seeded Grantham 9-2.
MVP Hunter Jernigan threw a six-hitter and posted nine strikeouts for Northeast, which collected its 10th win of the season.
Lloyd Lowe led Northeast's offense with three hits. Teammates Trent Herndon, Zack Smith, Doyle Perkins and Austin Tyner each had one hit.
Nick Flores (3-for-3), Chase Horton (2-for-3) and Justin Martin (1-for-3) paced Grantham's attack. Flores, Martin and Brandon Lee all saw mound time. Lee recorded seven strikeouts.
