The Lynchburg Hillcats shutout the Kinston Indians 8-0 Saturday night in Virginia. Lynchburg starter and former Clemson Tiger Daniel Moskos (6-3), gave up just three hits in seven plus innings of work for the victory.
Lynchburg got to Kinston starter Josh Tomlin in the bottom of the third inning when Greg Picart scored on an Alex Presley single. The Hillcats would go up 3-0 went Kent Sakamoto delivered a two RBI double later in the inning. Lynchburg put the game out of reach in the bottom of the fifth when they batted around on Tomlin and the K-Tribe, scoring five runs on five hits. Another two-out, two RBI double by Sakamoto and a three-run home run by Jared Keel highlighted the inning. It was Tomlin's (5-2) second loss of the season. Kinston's Mike Pontius and Matt Meyer combined for four innings of scoreless relief from the bullpen
Kinston (34-34) managed just four hits on the night, as no K-Triber had a multi-hit night. The Indians will look to salvage a split of the four game series Sunday afternoon at Lynchburg. Hector Rondon goes to the hill for Kinston at 2pm for the final game of the first half.
