MOC golf ends fourth in region

MOORESVILLE -- Freshman Ryan Campbell birdied the final three holes and finished eighth overall in individual play as the 2008 NCAA Division II Atlantic/Southeast Super Regional men's golf tournament concluded Wednesday afternoon.

Campbell compiled a 54-hole round of 224, the lowest-ever score in NCAA Tournament play by a Trojan. His eighth-place effort matched the school record for best individual finish at the Super Regional.

Mount Olive posted a program-best, fourth-place score of 911 in three NCAA Tournament appearances.

Johan Hagsund placed 15th overall with a 230. Jonathan Greene carded his best round (75) on Wednesday and wound up tied for 18th with a 231. Senior Mick Moberg, who played his final collegiate tournament, fashioned a 232 to finish tied for 20th.

First-time participant Pete Skirptas tied for 37th at 243.

Belmont Abbey seized the Atlantic Region team title with an 889 and advanced to the NCAA Championships in Houston, Texas. Georgia College & State University claimed the Southeast Region crown with an 872. USC-Aiken, Newberry and Clayton State captured the three at-large bids to the national finals.
