HILLSBOROUGH -- Taylor Gardner carded a nine-hole round of 36 and Wayne Christian finished regular-season play unbeaten in the Class 1-A Carolina Christian Conference ranks.

The Eagles (42-0 overall) posted a four-player total of 151, seven strokes lower than runner-up Cresset Christian. Cape Fear Christian ended up third at 162 on the Hillsborough Golf Club links.

Matt Davis and Davis Taylor complemented Gardner with identical scores of 38. Eric Williams contributed a 39. Hayden Gardner and Jay Kornegay also participated in the match.

Wayne Christian, the defending N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association state champion, concluded regular-season play with a whopping 64-stroke advantage over Cape Fear Christian and 84-stroke lead over Cresset.

All CCC members return to action today in the season-ending tournament at Keith Hills Country Club in Buies Creek.

Tennis

Eagles top Faith-RM

Wayne Christian picked up five singles points and cruised to a 7-2, non-conference victory over Faith Christian of Rocky Mount on Friday afternoon.

Matt Rouse, Woody Sasser, Chris Easom, Daniel Glover and Kenneth Giordano each earned a straight-set singles win. Rouse did not lose a game, while Easom lost one game at the No. 4 slot.

The tandems of Sasser-Easom and Glover Giordano emerged victorious in doubles.

Wayne Christian improved to 7-0 overall.
