WILSON -- Lani Fricks belted an eighth-inning, RBI single and Beddingfield's defense obliged with two errors as Eastern Wayne pulled out a 6-4 on the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference softball scene.

The Bruins responded with a two-run rally of their own, but Fricks posted a game-ending strikeout. The Warriors (6-14 overall) claimed their first ECC win of 2008 after seven consecutive defeats.

"That was a big win for us," said first-year Eastern Wayne head coach Tony Parrish. "The girls were emotional the whole game, were behind each other and they wanted to win when the game got into extra innings."

Fricks finished with six strikeouts in two-plus innings of relief. Starter Carrie Adams permitted two runs on three hits in 5 2/3 innings inside the pitcher's circle.

Adams, Casey Mitchell and Brianna Williams paced the Eastern Wayne offense with two hits apiece.
