Wayne Christian exploded for 11 runs in the third inning and roughed up Parrott Academy 14-0 in five innings on Thursday.

Sarah McCollum went 3-for-3 with two doubles and Carlie Hightower and Brittany Sullivan both added a pair of hits.

Traci Davis pitched a complete-game shutout for the Eagles, allowing two hits while striking out four and walking one.

Wayne Christian (9-1 overall) hosts Southern Wayne on Monday at 4 p.m.

Warriors tag Gators

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Eastern Wayne cruised past Spring Creek 12-1 in non-conference action on Thursday.

Brianna Williams led the Warriors (5-14 overall) with three hits. Caitlin Turner batted 2-for-5 with an RBI. Morgan Smith added two hits, while Casey Mitchell cranked out a triple.

Smith permitted one hit and recorded four strikeouts in five innings of relief. Starter Lani Fricks gave up one run in two innings of work.

Kristin Smith (1-for-1) scored the Gators' lone run.

Elizabeth Edwards took the loss for the Gators, allowing seven runs in four innings of work. Spring Creek was plagued by eight errors.

The Gators (1-11) host Princeton today while Eastern Wayne travels to Wilson Beddingfield.

Baseball

WCS downs Crossroads

Jeremy Jefferson surrendered just one hit and Wayne Christian routed Crossroads Christian 13-1 in five innings on Thursday.

Jefferson pitched all five innings and struck out eight.

Adam Brannan and Jefferson (four RBI) each had two hits.

The Eagles (7-2, 3-0 CCC) travel to Norlina on Monday.

Tough night for WCDS

Head coach Baron Heinemann described the experience as "miserable" and the final score wouldn't suggest any different.

Village Christian scored four second-half goals and handed Wayne Country Day a 5-0 loss on Thursday. Adding to the loss was the news that forward Virginia Best suffered a torn ACL and meniscus in Tuesday's game against Ridgecroft.

Wayne Country Day (8-2-2 overall) plays host to Oakwood at 4 p.m. today.

Dawgs bag Gators

PRINCETON -- Morgan Brush posted two goals as Princeton rolled past Spring Creek 7-0 in their Carolina 1-A Conference battle Wednesday evening.

Hattie Dougherty, Megan Hewitt, Amber Brush, Olivia Booker and Danielle Rainbow added one goal apiece.

Keepers Amber Brush and Euri Joe combined for the shutout win in goal.

The Dawgs (5-2-1 overall) remained unbeaten in two conference outings this season, while the Gators (0-2 CC) dipped to 0-5 overall.

Tennis

Chargers top RM

ROCKY MOUNT -- Wayne Country Day disposed of Faith Christian of Rocky Mount 7-2 on Thursday.

Thomas Elmore, Jack Langston, Bryce Allen and Douglas Williams were all victorious in singles play for the Chargers.

Wilson-Elmore, Langston-Allen and Trent Proimos-Williams recorded doubles wins.

Wayne Country Day (1-1 overall) travels to Greenfield on Tuesday.

Warriors drop Bruins

WILSON -- Eastern Wayne lost just three sets all afternoon and defeated Wilson Beddingfield 8-1 in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play on Thursday.

Drew Jackson, David Benton, Chris Knobling, Eric Barnes, Thomas Jackson and Will Kastner all earned singles wins. D. Jackson-Benton and Knobling-Barnes also picked up doubles wins.

Eastern Wayne welcomes C.B. Aycock on Tuesday.

Aycock blanks Hunt

PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock remained undefeated in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play with a 9-0 win over Wilson Hunt on Thursday.

Blake Vail, Addison Westbrook, Blake Cooper, Ben Evans, Ben Nichols and Dylan Quinn all had singles wins. The same players were victorious in doubles action.

The Golden Falcons (14-1, 7-0 ECC) entertain Clayton today.

EW finishes 2nd

WILSON -- Eastern Wayne finished second in both the boys and girls portions of a tri-meet at Wilson Beddingfield on Thursday.

The Bruins finished first on the boys side with a team score of 76, ahead of the Warriors' 69 and the Vikings' 37.

Kinston won the girls meet with a score of 81.5 to Eastern Wayne's 72.5 and Beddingfield's 10.

Boys first-place finishers for the Warriors were Stacey Edwards (110 meter hurdles), Tim Wright (mile), Zachary Parrish (two-mile), Stefan Henshaw (pole vault) and Cody Kirkham and Colton Butler (high jump). The 3,200- and 800-meter relay teams also finished first.

Girls' first-place finishers for Eastern Wayne were Sarah Schley (mile run), Esther Sutton (100 meter dash), Shannon Rouse (two mile) and the 400- and 800-meter relay teams.

The Warriors' boys will compete in the Wayne County Meet at 4 p.m. on Monday in New Hope.

CBA wins tri-meet

WILSON -- Charles B. Aycock's boys tallied a team score of 96 and defeated Wilson Hunt and Southern Wayne in a tri-meet on Thursday.

The Warriors finished second with a score of 59 ahead of the Saints 29.

First-place finishers for the Golden Falcons were Craig Murdoch (long jump, triple jump), Cameron George (pole vault), Jarrett Covar (discus), Nick Redding (400 meters), Nik Fredrick (mile, two-mile) and the 400-, 800- and 1,600-meter relay teams.

Aycock will compete in the Wayne County Meet on Monday.

JV sports

* Village Christian soccer 7, Wayne Country Day 0 -- An overmatched Wayne Country Day (0-4 overall) squad simply couldn't keep pace with Village Christian. Injuries and only four players with previous soccer experience slowed the Chargers' attack.

Middle schools

* Grantham softball 16, Spring Creek 0 -- Madison Davis threw a no-hitter with eight strikeouts. Hope Rose and Taylor Davis both recorded doubles. Grantham (8-2, 6-0 Wayne County Middle School Athletic Conference Division II) travels to Rosewood on Monday for a non-conference game.

* Grantham baseball 7, Spring Creek 5 -- Keenan Winn's two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh helped seal the win and put Grantham in sole possession of first place in the Division II Conference. Jeremy Taylor, Matt Sparks and Joshua Edwards each had hits. Edwards recorded the win on the mound. Grantham (7-2-1, 5-1 WCMSAC Division II) visits Rosewood on Monday.

* Brogden baseball 13, Greenwood 12 -- Chad Davis went 3-for-5 at the plate with two RBI to lead Brogden. Corey Edwards and Julian Mitchell pitched in two hits each. Kevin Limpscomb got the win on the mound. Brogden travels to Norwayne on Monday.
