Rosewood edges North Duplin softball in 9 innings

CALYPSO -- Jennifer Hall scored the game-winning run in the top of the ninth inning on a fielder's choice and Rosewood held on to defeat North Duplin 5-4.

Hall finished the game 3-for-5. Jessica Price, Alysa Spell and Christina Bruton each recorded multiple-hit efforts in the win.

Haile Meadows, coming off a no-hitter Tuesday against Spring Creek, threw another complete game. The junior right-hander fanned 10 North Duplin batters.

Jodie Williamson led North Duplin at the plate with two hits and two runs scored. Ashley Cartwright, Brittney Coley and Elizabeth Lane fininshed with two hits each.

"We played very well tonight," said North Duplin coach Heather Best. "We cut down on our errors, ran the bases aggressively and played as a team, unfortunately we didn't record a win."

Rosewood (3-7 overall) improved to 2-1 in Class 1-A Carolina Conference play and entertains archrival Princeton on Tuesday. North Duplin (4-5, 0-3) travels to Spring Creek on Tuesday.

Rams win again

SNOW HILL -- Liz Webb batted 2-for-3 and drove in two runs as Greene Central defeated Farmville Central 7-1 on the Eastern Plains 2-A Conference scene.

Megan Lovett also reached base twice for the Rams.

Jessica Moore threw a six-hitter and earned the mound win.

Greene Central (11-6 overall) puts its 4-0 EPC worksheet on the line at home Tuesday against North Lenoir.

SC beaten

KENLY -- Ivy Campbell finished 2-for-2 at the plate for the Gators, but it was not enough as North Johnston routed Spring Creek 10-0 in five innings.

Casey Coor and Elizabeth Edwards saw time in the pitcher's circle. Neither could do little to shut down the Panthers' offense, which capitalized on eight Gator errors.

Spring Creek (1-9, 0-4 CC) entertains North Duplin on Tuesday.

Hawks triumph

North Lenoir improved to 4-0 in Eastern Plains 2-A action with a 31-0 win over Goldsboro on Friday.

Erin Deal pitched a five inning no-hitter for the Hawks.

Kayla Sutton led North Lenoir at the plate, ripping three hits and driving in two runs.

The Hawks (9-4 overall) travel to Greene Central on Tuesday.

Soccer

Falcons prevail

WINTERVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock stepped out of conference and picked up a 2-0 victory at South Central on Friday evening.

The Golden Falcons took an early lead on a Lauren Adcox goal, and padded their advantage in the second half with a netter from Abby Caplinger.

Patrice Pittman went the distance in goal to earn the shutout.

The Falcons (4-7-1 overall) are the guests of Kinston on Tuesday.

Baseball

Gators dropped

KENLY -- Alex Casey allowed six runs, but just two earned, as Spring Creek lost 6-2 at North Johnston.

The Gators committed five costly errors in the Carolina 1-A Conference contest.

Casey led the Gators with one hit and a run scored. Anthony Brogden chipped in a hit and two RBI.

Spring Creek welcomes North Duplin on Tuesday.

Rams win

FARMVILLE -- Greene Central used a six run outburst in the second inning to overpower Farmville Central 14-8 on Friday evening.

Trey Beamon and Steven McDonald each homered in the victory.

Justin Everett struck out seven Farmville batters over four innings to earn the victory on the pitcher's mound.

Greene Central (9-7 overall) evened its Eastern Plains 2-A record at 2-2.

Track

Warriors prevail

Stacey Edwards finished first in both the 110- and 300-meter hurdles as Eastern Wayne emerged victorious in an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference track meet.

The Warriors also received first-place efforts from Dwight Ulmer (100 dash), Tim Wright (1,600 run, 200 dash) and Chris Jones (high jump). Their performances helped Eastern Wayne edge county rival C.B. Aycock 87.5-85.5 in team competition. Kinston was third with 49 points, followed by Southern Wayne with 31.

The Golden Falcons' Craig Murdock took the long jump and triple jump. Teammates Nick Redding won the 400-meter run, while Nik Fredrick crossed the line first in the 3,200 run.

Eastern Wayne grabbed the 800-meter relay and Aycock prevailed in the 1,600-meter relay.

JV sports

* Greene Central baseball 15, Farmville Central 5 -- Wes Sowers went the distance for the Rams. Derek Grant and C.J. Faulkner eached belted three hits for the Rams. Greene Central (9-5 overall) will host North Lenoir as part of a junior varsity/varsity doubleheader on Tuesday.

* Greene Central tennis 6, Eastern Wayne 3 -- Scott Cronin and Seth Taylor each picked up singles points for the Warriors. The duo of Sanjeev Srikantha-Carpenter collected a doubles point. Eastern Wayne fell to 4-2 overall.

Middle schools

* Princeton softball 15, Archer Lodge 0 -- Megan Gerrell ripped three hits including an inside-the-park home run for the Dogs. Nicole Melvin and Hannah Woodard also tallied three hits. Logan Jones struck out six in the complete-game shutout.
