LaGRANGE -- Cambric Moye belted a two-out grand slam in the top of the seventh inning lifting Eastern Wayne to an 8-6, come-from-behind victory at North Lenoir on Wednesday.

Moye also hit a solo home run in the sixth and finished 2-for-2 with five RBI as the Warriors rallied from a 6-1 deficit.

Walker Gourley was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. John Wooten finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and also got the win on the mound in relief for Eastern Wayne.

Michael Mintz started for the Warriors and pitched the first three innings.

John Alphin went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Hawks. C.C. Croom was 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored and Brandon Whitehurst finished 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Croom took the loss on the mound surrendering three runs.

Eastern Wayne (11-5 overall) visits Spring Creek today. North Lenoir (10-1) entertains Goldsboro at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Aycock routs GC

SNOW HILL -- Jesse Randolph kept Greene Central in check all evening and Charles B. Aycock's offense was more than enough to guide the Golden Falcons to an 8-0 win in Snow Hill on Wednesday.

Randolph (6-1) pitched a complete allowing just three hits with seven strikeouts and no walks.

Jordan Carr was 3-for-4 for at the plate and Will Edgerton went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.

Josh Martin, Connor Narron, Zach Wright and Stephen Strouse all had RBI.

Aycock (12-4 overall) continues non-conference play at Wilson Fike tonight.

Softball

PHS rallies to win

PRINCETON -- After tying the game at 1-1 in the fourth, Princeton used a six-run, fifth inning to break open the ballgame and down Ayden-Grifton 8-1 in Carolina 1-A Conference action on Wednesday.

Brittany Baker and Danielle Mitchell (3 RBI) both had two hits for the Bulldogs. April Keene added a pair of RBI.

Keene pitched five innings allowing one run on one hit with four strikeouts and two walks. Traci Bridgers worked the final two innings of scoreless relief.

Princeton (6-4 overall, 3-0 Carolina) visits Rosewood on Tuesday.

CBA blanks GC

PIKEVILLE -- Emily Jordan pitched six scoreless innings and Torie Benton delivered a three-run double as Charles B. Aycock defeated Greene Central 7-0 on Wednesday.

Stevie Savage, Cara Frederick, Leigh Smith and Brooke Edgerton each had RBIs for the Golden Falcons.

Jordan surrendered just two hits over six innings with 10 strikeouts and one walk. Autumn Pittman pitched a scoreless seventh.

Megan Lovett and Chelsea Tyndall recorded the Rams only hits.

C.B. Aycock hosts Southern Wayne at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Saints hold off NJ

DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne's 7-5 victory over visiting North Johnston Wednesday was truly a family affair.

Meredith (2 RBI) and Morgan Davis both contributed two hits and Morgan picked up the win on the mound scattering eight hits over 5 1/3 innings.

Alyssa Bradshaw chipped in a hit and two RBI for the Saints. Lauren Darden pitched the final 1 2/3 innings for the save.

Southern Wayne (10-1 overall) visits D.H. Conley today before traveling to Charles B. Aycock on Friday.

Late rally hurts ND

AYDEN -- Ayden-Grifton broke an 8-8 tie with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and held on to defeat North Duplin 10-8 in Carolina 1-A Conference play.

Jessica Jones paced the Rebels' offense with four hits and two RBI. Elizabeth Lane turned in a 3-for-4 performance with two triples and four RBI. Heather Hudson was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Kristen Jones (RBI), Ashley Cartwright, Brittney Coley, Jenny Coley and Felicia Lynch all pitched in hits.

Pridgen took the loss on the mound. The left-hander yielded 10 runs (four earned) on eight hits with four walks and five strikeouts over six innings.

North Duplin (4-4 overall, 0-2 Carolina) welcomes Rosewood on Friday.

Dogs, Falcons tie

PRINCETON -- Goals were hard to come by on Wednesday evening as Charles B. Aycock and Princeton played to a scoreless tie in non-conference play.

The Golden Falcons (3-7-1 overall) visit South Central on Friday. Princeton travels to North Johnston on Monday.

S. Nash handles Rams

SNOW HILL -- Colby Chase was the lone singles winner for Greene Central on Wednesday as the Rams were overpowered by top-ranked Southern Nash 8-1.

Chase outlasted Nicolas Finet 4-6, 6-2, 10-3.

"Southern Nash has a really strong team and they showed why they are ranked No. 1 in the state," Greene Central head coach Brad Sauls said. "It hurt not to have our number two player but it probably wouldn't have made a difference today. They are just too good."

The Rams (8-4 overall) host East Duplin on Monday.

Track

CBA takes first

PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock captured first place in 16 of 18 contested events and claimed a three-team, non-conference meet at Hardy Talton Stadium.

The Golden Falcons compiled 141 points. Goldsboro ended up second with 37 points, followed by Wayne Christian with six.

Aycock's Khendra Reid seized first in the shot put, high jump and 300-meter hurdles. Three teammates were double winners -- Craig Murdoch (long, triple jumps); Nik Redding (110 hurdles, 800 run) and Nik Fredrick (1,600, 3,200 runs).

The Golden Falcons also received first-place times or distances from Jarrett Covar (discus), Cameron George (pole vault), Darrius Bryant (100 dash) and Deven Sanders (400).

Aycock won three of four relays.

Goldsboro took the 800-meter relay.

In Wednesday's edition of the News-Argus, the six-player lineup for Rosewood's men's tennis team was listed incorrectly.

The Eagles' roster is Trevor Morris, Jon Rudolph, Zach Tubb, James Hernandez, Josh Pipkin, Michael Edwards, Michael Womack and Aaron Moore.

* Eastern Wayne boys tennis 9, Spring Creek 0 -- Timothy Parker, Michael Ames, Joe Dicesare, Sanjeev Srikantha, Scott Cronin and Seth Taylor each were victorious in singles play. The same group combined to sweep the doubles. Eastern Wayne (4-1 overall) visits Greene Central today.

* Greene Central baseball 9, Charles B. Aycock 0 -- Trent Murray turned in a 3-for-5 performance at the plate for the Rams and C.J. Faulkner and Kyle McLawhorn both pitched in two hits. Zack Chase got the win on the mound for Greene Central. The Rams (8-4, 1-1 EPC) host Farmville Central on Friday.

* Princeton soccer 1, Charles B. Aycock 0 -- The Bulldogs outlasted the Golden Falcons in non-conference play on Wednesday.

Middle schools

* Princeton softball 13, Benson 3 -- Nicole Melvin homered and Hannah Woodard banged out three hits for the Dogs. Keely Myers added two hits. Amber Hill, Megan Gerrell, Megan Heath, Reandy Hearn and Summer Sasser each contributed one hit. Logan Jones claimed the mound win and logged five strikeouts.
