Wayne Christian's Traci Davis and Cynthia Burroughs combined for a no-hitter in a 15-0, three-inning victory over fellow Carolina Christian 1-A member Cresset Christian.

Davis retired five of six batters on strikeouts in a two-inning stint. Burroughs threw a perfect third with three strikeouts. It was the Eagles' third consecutive no-hitter and fifth of the season overall.

Burroughs slugged an inside-the-park home run. Carly Hightower, Reagan Hinton, Sarah McCullom and Kayla Kennedy each logged an extra-base hit in the scorebook.

Wayne Christian (7-0 overall, 2-0 CCC) puts its No. 1 ranking on the line Tuesday at conference nemesis Cape Fear Christian. The Eagles defeated Cape Fear in the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A title game last spring.

Rams rout E. Wayne

SNOW HILL -- Megan Lovett tallied three hits and three RBI as Greene Central claimed a 13-3, five-inning victory over Eastern Wayne.

Liz Webb and Shanna Parker added two hits apiece for the Rams. Jessica Moore collected the victory in the pitcher's circle, striking out two and giving up three runs on five hits.

Brianna Williams, Morgan Smith, Caitlin Turner (RBI), Lindsey Frederick and Carrie Adams each had one hit for the Warriors.

Adams took the mound loss.

Baseball

C.B. Aycock victorious

CLAYTON -- Behind solid pitching and just enough offense, Charles B. Aycock downed Clayton 5-1 in a non-conference baseball game on Thursday.

Will Edgerton (two RBI) and Jackson Wooten paced the Golden Falcons at the plate with a pair of hits each. Tyler Ruffin added a double.

Bryant Hill got the start on the mound and allowed one earned run on two hits with three strikeouts and two walks over four innings. Josh Martin (2-0) earned the win in relief, tossing two no-hit innings with three walks. Jimmy Kearney worked a scoreless seventh inning to close the ballgame.

Weather permitting, Aycock (10-4 overall) is scheduled to host Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference foe Wilson Beddingfield. First pitch is 7 p.m.

Eagles prevail

Three Wayne Christian pitchers combined to toss a no-hitter in a 23-0, five-inning conquest of Cresset Christian on Thursday afternoon.

Adam Brannan, Michael Johnson and Dante' Arthur combined for the no-hitter. Kyle Harrell belted a two-run homer and Steven Gallagher added a double on offense.

It was the Eagles' Carolina Christian 1-A Conference opener.

Wayne Christian (4-1 overall) visits league foe Norlina Christian today.

Soccer

Rosewood tops THS

Rosewood turned a 2-0 halftime lead into a 4-1 victory over visiting Tarboro on Thursday evening.

Gabby Cornman and Mary Jo Moore each scored twice for the Eagles. Rosewood finished with an 18-6 advantage in shots.

The Eagles (6-3-1 overall) play host to Southern Wayne on Monday.

JV sports

* Greene Central baseball 8, DH Conley 9th grade 6 -- Wes Sowers went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI for the Rams. C.J. Faulkner was also 3-for-4 and Zach Chase tacked on two hits and four RBI. Faulkner earned the win on the mound. Greene Central (7-4, 1-0 EPC) travels to Tarboro on Tuesday.

* Wayne Christian softball 16, Cresset Christian 1, four innings -- Meredith Burroughs and Kayla Kennedy combined for a no-hitter for Wayne Christian. Reagan Hinton and Burroughs each hit inside-the-park home runs. The Eagles (2-0 overall, 1-0 CCC) travel to Cape Fear Christian on Monday.

Middle schools

* Norwayne baseball 14, Mount Olive 1 -- Colin Dubose tallied four hits for Norwayne. Jimmy Joyner had three hits and Chris Dawson pitched in two. Norwayne (6-0 overall, 2-0 WCMSAC Division I) entertains Greenwood on Tuesday.

* Eastern Wayne baseball 19, Greenwood 0 -- Eastern Wayne's offense pounded out 14 hits and Justin Lee and Nolan James combined to strike out six and allowed just two hits. Lee and James both contributed two hits apiece. The Warriors entertain Norwayne next Thursday.

* Spring Creek baseball 15-16 Dillard 0-0 -- Wyatt Janning picked up the win on the mound for the Gators in game one and Ian Ladd was victorious in game two. Corey Howell and Zach Harrell emerged Spring Creek's offensive leaders.

* Eastern Wayne softball 10, Greenwood 1 -- Stephanie Smith collected three hits for the Warriors and also earned the win on the mound tallying 11 strikeouts. Jasmine Benjamin and Haley Ginn each added two hits. Eastern Wayne (6-1 overall) plays hosts to Norwayne next Thursday.
