SEVEN SPRINGS -- North Lenoir remained unbeaten with a 10-2 non-conference victory at Spring Creek on Thursday.

Bryce Grady went 4-for-5 with three runs scored, an RBI and a home run for the Hawks. Tyler Potter and Stephen Pridgen both had three hits.

John Alphin earned the win allowing one earned run on four hits while striking out six and walking two in six innings of work.

Paul Hayes and Steven Best both had RBI for the Gators (3-4) and Alex Casey added a double and scored twice.

North Lenoir (5-0 overall) continues non-conference play when Kinston visits LaGrange on Saturday. Spring Creek hosts Midway on Monday.

Conquerors victorious

GREENVILLE -- John Curt Cozine tossed a complete game, striking out seven and Faith Christian earned a 9-4 win at Trinity Christian on Thursday.

Matt Lambert and Nick Gurley each went 3-for-4 at the plate and Gurley added four RBI.

Faith (2-0 overall) plays host to Berean Christian on Monday.

Hobbton outlasts ND

CALYPSO -- Hobbton used a five-run fifth inning to pick up a 5-3 win at North Duplin on Thursday.

Doug Lloyd went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base for the Rebels. Marcus Kornegay was 1-for-4 with two RBI.

Lloyd pitched a complete game and took the loss on the mound.

North Duplin (0-3 overall) plays host to Union on Monday.

Softball

Rebels tame Wildcats

CALYPSO -- North Duplin broke a 1-1 tie with a sixth-inning run and downed visiting Hobbton 2-1 on Thursday.

Jessica Pridgen pitched a complete game allowing one earned run on three hits to go with 10 strikeouts and one walk.

Kristen Jones finished 2 for 3 and Heather Hudson, Elizabeth Lane, Pridgen and Ashley Cartwright all supplied hits.

"I was very pleased with the girls play," Rebels head coach Heather Best said. "We've really worked on cleaning up our defensive game and that paid off tonight. The entire team contributed either through defense or offense. We played a good, smart game against a very talented Hobbton team."

North Duplin (2-1 overall) entertains Union at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

Hawks cage Gators

LaGRANGE -- North Lenoir rebounded from back-to-back losses with a 19-0 rout of Spring Creek on Thursday.

Kendal Letchworh, Courtney Filipelli and Courtney Yeil each had three hits for the Hawks. Kayla Letchworth and Kayla Sutton both tallied two hits.

North Lenoir (2-4 overall) travels to Spring Creek on Thursday.

Tennis

Warriors top Fike

WILSON -- Eastern Wayne had little trouble of disposing of Wilson Fike 9-0 on Thursday afternoon.

Drew Jackson, David Benton, Chris Knobling, Eric Barnes, Thomas Jackson and Marvin Bowman all recorded singles wins for the Warriors.

The doubles pairs of Drew Jackson-Benton, Knobling-Barnes and Tim Parker-Michael Barnette were all victorious.

Gryphons topple GC

ROCKY MOUNT -- Just two days after knocking off the state's top-ranked 1-A team, Greene Central lost 7-2 against Rocky Mount on Thursday.

Andrew Harrison and Jason Perry earned the Rams lone singles victories.

"I was really disappointed in our performance today," Greene Central head coach Brad Sauls said. "Rocky Mount has a solid team, but I feel like we were very disappointed in our singles matches today. Hopefully we can learn from this match."

The Rams (4-2 overall) visit Eastern Plains 2-A Conference foe Farmville Central on Monday.

Golf

Warriors best White Oak

Eastern Wayne downed visiting White Oak 318-327 in a non-conference match on Thursday.

Kyle Ham earned medalist honors with a 74. Nick Barrow added a 76. Eric Huetter and Carson Daly finished with an 82 and 86, respectively.

The Warriors will compete in an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference meet at Willow Springs.

Rams struggle

AYDEN -- Kyle Adams earned medalist honors with a round of 80 as D.H. Conley bested Greene Central in non-conference play on Thursday at Ayden Country Club.

The Vikings won the dual meet 331-418.

Benjamin Rice shot a 103 for the Rams and Kevin Murphy fired a 104.\

Track

Eagles split tri-meet

Rosewood's women's track team finished second in a home tri-meet with Princeton and Ayden-Grifton on Thursday.

Ayden-Grifton finished first with a score of 74, ahead of the Eagle's mark of 61 and the Bulldogs 49.

First place finishers for Rosewood were Olive Neal in the pole vault and Jennifer Page in the 800 meters and the mile.

The Eagles also finished first in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter relays.

Bruins take ECC meet

WILSON -- Wilson Beddingfield outlasted Charles B. Aycock and Eastern Wayne in an Eastern Carolina Conference 3-A meet on Thursday.

The Bruins recorded a score of 78 while the Golden Falcons earned a 64 and Eastern Wayne had a 42.

First-place boys finishers for CBA were Jarrett Covar (shot put), Cameron George (pole vault), Nick Redding (800 meters) and Nik Frederick (mile and two-mile). The Golden Falcons were also victorious in the 1600 meter relay.

Winners for CBA on the girls side were Ashley Toler (discus), Teonna Jenkins (high jump), Chantel Gaines (200 and 400 meters) and Megan Hales (mile). Also earning wins was the Golden Falcons' 1,600- and 3,200-meter relay squads.

Eastern Wayne's Stacy Edwards was victorious in the 110-meter hurdles. The Warriors also won the 3200 meter relay.

JV sports

* C.B. Aycock baseball 7, North Lenoir 4 -- Golden Falcon hurler Jordan Quinn worked 6 1/3 innings and posted four strikeouts in Wednesday's non-conference win. Quinn (two RBI) and Brad Kennedy each doubled, and finished with two hits apiece offensively. Anderson Barnes scratched out a double and an RBI. Nick Walker contributed one hit. C.B. Aycock visits Kinston today.

Middle schools

* Grantham 17, Brogden 2 -- Ashton Cox finished 2 for 4 for Grantham. Ivey Strickland, Keith Jones, Sam Henderson, Matt Sparks, David Joyner and Joshua Edwards each added hits. Jacob Sasser tacked on a three-run homer. Cox picked up the win on the mound. Josh Whitman, Chad Davis and Cole Tisdale recorded hits for Brogden. Grantham (1-1, 1-0) hosts Rosewood on Monday.

* Spring Creek 12, Rosewood 8 (8 innings) -- Spring Creek rallied from a 8-4 deficit to earn the win in extra innings. Corey Howell and Adam Haggerty both went 3 for 5 for the Gators. Duane Gurganus earned the win in relief with eight strikeouts.

* Princeton softball 4, Riverwood 3 -- Hannah Woodard, Katlyn Peedin, Nicole Melvin and Keely Myers all had three hits for Princeton. Megan Gerrell, Reandy Hearn and Summer Sasser each tallied two hits.

* Rosewood softball 12, Spring Creek 1 -- Amanda Beckert struck out five and didn't surrender a walk to pick up the win for Rosewood. Rosewood (2-1) visits Grantham on Monday.
