LaGRANGE -- Charles B. Aycock secured a 2-0, first-inning lead and survived North Lenoir's late-inning rally for a 3-2, non-conference softball victory Wednesday afternoon.

Stevie Savage, Brooke Edgerton and Tori Benton led the Falcons' offense with two hits apiece.

Emily Jordan earned the mound victory.

The Golden Falcons visit Kinston on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Rams triumph

LITTLEFIELD -- Liz Webb tripled and drove in a run as Greene Central nipped Ayden-Grifton 3-2 on Wednesday afternoon.

Webb finished with two hits. Ashleigh Chase and Megan Lovett (RBI) also contributed two hits apiece.

Webb and Moore combined for a four-hitter in the pitcher's circle. Each posted five strikeouts for the Rams, who improved to 4-2 overall.

Greene Central entertains Southern Wayne on Monday.

Baseball

Saints bounce back

TEACHEY -- Will Broadwell permitted three hits in five-plus innings as Southern Wayne doubled up Wallace-Rose Hill 4-2 on the Thell B. Overman Field diamond Wednesday afternoon.

Broadwell posted six strikeouts and yielded two runs (one earned). Raymond Valezquez supplied 11/3 innings of two-strike, scoreless relief for the save.

Jordan Williams led the Saints' offense with three hits. Tyler Edwards and Scott Holloman (RBI) combined for three hits.

Southern Wayne (4-2 overall) entertains Wilson Beddingfield on Friday. First pitch is 5 p.m.

Gators down Hobbton

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek evened its overall record at 3-3 with an 8-3, non-conference conquest of Hobbton.

Tim Rodgers allowed one earned run on seven hits in 51/3 innings.

Paul Hayes and Kevin Prunest paced the Gators' offense with two hits apiece. Alex Casey added an RBI and scored three runs.

Spring Creek entertains North Lenoir today.

Rams stumble

WINTERVILLE -- South Central limited Greene Central to three hits and earned a 6-0, non-conference victory Wednesday afternoon.

Michael Speedy, Alex Brann and Chris Leggett each recorded one hit for the Rams.

Greene Central entertains Eastern Wayne on Saturday. Game time is 2 p.m.

Soccer

Falcons soar

PIKEVILLE -- Caroline Schlaeppi provided the lone goal as C.B. Aycock upended North Lenoir 1-0 on Wednesday evening.

Schlaeppi scored off Taylor DeMartini's assist.

Keeper Courtney Sheeks stopped 15 Hawks shots for her first save of the season.

The Golden Falcons play host to Kinston at 5 p.m. Friday.

JV sports

* South Central baseball 7, Greene Central 6 -- Zach Chase batted 3-for-5 for the Rams, who suffered their first loss of the season. Trent Murray also added a hit for Greene Central. The Rams (3-1 overall) face Spring Creek on Tuesday.
