Jerry Narron returns to the Big Show

Jerry Narron is headed back to the Big Show

The former Cincinnati Reds manager was hired by the Texas Rangers last week to do some consulting work on a part-time basis. Narron will join brother Johnny, who was hired by the Rangers a month ago and is currently with the team at spring training.

Since his departure from Cincinnati, Jerry has fielded numerous calls from Major League organizations on a daily basis.

"I've been flattered by the interest by every Major League team and it's also humbling that the people have shown me that kind of respect," said Narron. "It's a good fit and gives me a chance to stay in the game. The biggest plus is I get to be home quite a bit."

The Rangers organization hired Narron to do some evaluation of players in its system. He'll attend some Major League games, and also spend time traveling during the summer to look at the club's minor-league prospects.

"I'll do whatever they need me to do," said Narron.

Narron couldn't have asked for a better situation. His part-time status will allow him to stay home and watch his son, Connor, play baseball at Charles B. Aycock. The sophomore infielder is rated the fourth-best high school prospect nationally in the Class of 2010 by perfectgame.com.

Connor helped the Golden Falcons win the state 3-A championship last spring.

"I really couldn't ask for a better situation," said Jerry. "I know the general manager (John Daniels) and I have a past with Nolan Ryan. It just made the decision easier to go back there."
