STATESVILLE -- Wayne Christian upset fifth-seeded Statesville Christian 47-35 in the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association Class 1-A girls' basketball playoffs Tuesday.

The Eagles (14-7 overall) face Word of God at Cary Academy at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Word of God defeated Faith Christian of Rocky Mount in overtime to earn its spot in the quarterfinals.

Hope Wright led Wayne Christian with a double-double -- 20 points, 10 rebounds. Jennifer Price pitched in 14 points and seven rebounds. Charity Wright had 11 points and six rebounds.

"We just overall played a great game," Eagles head coach Lee Price said. "We played good defense and ran our offense well. We feel real good about our chances on Thursday."

Eagles down North Duplin

KENLY -- Playoff-bound Rosewood advanced to the semifinals of the Carolina 1-A Conference tournament with a 52-48 win over North Duplin on Tuesday evening.

The Eagles (9-13 overall) oppose regular-season champion Ayden-Grifton at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Mount Olive.

Holt Rains scored 19 points for Rosewood. Tyler Muntz contributed 13 and Stephen McIntyre had eight.

Chris Graham supplied 22 points for the Rebels, who finished the season 3-14. Doug Lloyd added nine.
