PRINCETON -- Princeton turned back archrival Rosewood 43-35 in the Carolina 1-A Conference regular-season finale for both teams.

Ashley Huffman led the Bulldogs (10-14 overall, 5-5 Carolina) with 10 points. Brittany Baker chipped in eight points, while Tylan George and Amber Wood knocked down seven and six, respectively.

Haile Meadows emerged the Eagles' top scorer with a game-high 11 points. Mary Jo Moore recorded eight points for Rosewood (5-16, 1-9).

Both teams return to action Monday in the conference tournament.

Eagles grounded

Coming off an emotional, three-overtime victory over top-seeded Crossroads Christian earlier in the week, Wayne Christian couldn't keep the momentum Friday evening.

Cape Fear Christian prevailed 40-32 in the Carolina Christian 1-A Conference tournament championship, and earned the automatic bid to the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association playoffs.

All-CCC and all-tournament selection Hope Wright led Wayne Christian with a double-double -- 10 points, 18 rebounds. Wright was named the tournament's most outstanding player.

Hanna Kaler, an All-CCC pick, added seven points and five rebounds for the Eagles. Teammates Brittany Sullivan and Jennifer Price grabbed spots on the all-tournament team.

Wayne Christian concluded the year 13-7 and will learn its playoff fate today when the selection committee releases the 16-team tournament bracket.

Faith girls advance

Faith Christian opened N.C. Christian Schools Association 2-A state tournament play with a 36-28 victory over Cornerstone Christian on Friday evening.

The Conquerors overcame a two-point, third-quarter effort to grab the win.

Lindsey Godwin led Faith Christian with 15 points, while Alyssa Hill scored nine.

Hawks edge GC

LaGRANGE -- Shonice Pettaway pumped in 13 points, but it wasn't enough as North Lenoir knocked off Greene Central 40-38 on Friday evening.

Dominique Graham added seven points for the Rams, who dropped to 2-22 overall and finished 1-9 in Eastern Plains 2-A Conference play. Greene Central travels to Goldsboro for an opening-round, EPC tournament contest Monday.

North Lenoir (15-9) ended up a in three-way tie for the EPC regular-season title. The Hawks drew the No. 2 seed and play the Greene Central-Goldsboro winner on Wednesday at North Pitt.

Rebels triumph

CALYPSO -- North Duplin knocked off archrival Spring Creek 45-36 in the Carolina 1-A Conference regular-season finale for both teams Friday evening.

Jodie Williamson led the playoff-bound Rebels with 19 points. Rebecca Coats added 12.

"They won in spite of the coaching tonight," said North Duplin coach Danny Blackburn, who will retire after this season. "This group of seniors always plays hard, and you can always count on them giving you all that they've got."

Tasha Whitfield emerged the Gators' top scorer with 11 points, while Melanique DeVeaux contributed nine. Spring Creek (4-15 overall) finished 2-8 in conference play.

The teams meet again Monday evening at Princeton in the opening round of the season-ending Carolina 1-A Conference tournament. North Duplin (7-6, 4-6 CC) is the No. 4 seed.

Boys

Jags go 10-0 in EPC

Gardner-Webb signee Terrell Barrett sizzled the nets for a game-high 32 points as Farmville Central knocked off Goldsboro 80-65 on the Eastern Plains 2-A Conference scene Friday.

The Jaguars (16-3 overall) finished a perfect 10-0 against EPC opposition and earned an opening-round bye for the conference tournament. The Cougars (14-10, 6-4) drew the No. 3 seed and entertain sixth-seeded Tarboro on Monday.

The teams battled through 11 ties, including eight in the first half. Goldsboro entered the locker room down by two at halftime and stayed within striking distance early in the third quarter.

"We wanted to keep it close. They were up 18 on us at their place and a big thing was to play the first half to get to the second," said Cougars head coach Tod Morgan. "I thought we did a pretty good job. We had some moments there where some good things happened. But when you have two good players (Barrett, Devon Atkinson) ... some go-to guys, it's hard to stop them forever.

"They will find a way to score."

Atkinson added 16 for the Jaguars.

Senior Tavon Murchison tallied 22 for the Cougars. Kevonta McDuffie chipped in 12, while Anthony Council buried 11 points.

Junior varsity

* Goldsboro High boys 67, Farmville Central 57 -- Resean Brewington paced the Cougars with a game-high 24 points in the regular-season finale for both teams. Devante White supplied 15 points and Jarran Reid contributed nine. Goldsboro (12-7 overall) finished 7-3 in the Eastern Plains 2-A Conference, one game behind regular-season champion Farmville.

* Greene Central boys 58, North Lenoir 51 -- Malcolm Dawson led the way for the Rams with 15 points. Teammates Marquise Grant added 13 and Kelsey Dixon scored 11. The Rams (9-13 overall) logged a 5-5 worksheet against EPC 2-A opposition.

* Trinity-Durham girls 39, Wayne Christian 32 -- Charity Wright led a balanced offensive attack with nine points in the Eagles' season-ending loss. Kayla Kennedy added eight points. Carly Hightower (six points), Courtney Barrow (five points) and Devan Isenhower (four points) also scratched in the scoring column. Wright and Hightower were named to the All-Carolina Christian Conference tournament team, while Kennedy was named most outstanding player.
