Mount Olive men rout Lees-McRae

MOUNT OLIVE -- Just another day at the office.

Brandon Streeter turned in another double-double, Mike Holloman unleashed a bevy of rim-rocking dunks and Mount Olive cruised past Conference Carolinas foe Lees-McRae 99-70 on Saturday night at Kornegay Arena.

The Bobcats were within striking distance trailing 42-30 at the start of the second half before Streeter's layup capped a 17-9 Trojans' run that stretched the lead to 20. Mount Olive (17-4 overall, 13-2 CC) forced 14 second-half turnovers, 22 for the game and converted those into 30 points.

Without a player who came close to matching Streeter's stature, Lees-McRae (4-18, 3-13 CC) struggled to stop the senior from Jacksonville all night. He scored 11 of his game-high 21 points after halftime and finished with 13 rebounds, 11 of which came on the offensive end.

"I was just trying to be dominant," Streeter said. "This is my last year and that's what my mentality has been day in and day out. Everybody's been preaching just to dominate. Offensively, defensively, on the glass or inside, whatever it is I'm going to do it for my team."

With time winding down and his minutes limited due to foul trouble Holloman began to make the most of his time on the floor. Mere moments separated a pair of dunks that sent the crowd into a frenzy. The second came as Holloman dribbled down the base line rose three or feet from the rim and threw down the ball with authority.

Holloman, who finished with eight points, put an exclamation point on the evening with his alley-oop from Aaron Dobson.

"I was in foul trouble and I was kind of mad when I got on the court and every time I got the ball I was just trying to go to the basket," Holloman said. "We called the (alley-oop) and it kind of broke down but Aaron got it up there and I went and got it. That's what we like we call it 'showtime.'"

Kendrick Easley chipped in 18 points, Josh Brown added 15 and Craig Hayes had 13. Nick DeSchepper scored 19 for the Bobcats.

With the win and help from Erskine, which knocked off Pfeiffer 109-101 on Saturday night, Mount Olive claimed sole possession of first place in the conference. The Trojans are 11-0 at home this season.

"We don't get caught up in all the hype being number one in the region, or being undefeated at home. We just take it day in and day out one game at a time," Streeter said. "That's the only way we're going to achieve success if we take our time practice by practice and game by game. We're in control of our destiny."

Mount Olive completes a string of four straight home games Monday against Chowan.
