Wayne County swimmers turned in a dominating performance during the season-ending, Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference Championships contested in the Goldsboro Family Y pool.
Of the 20 events contested, swimmers from the three county schools -- Charles B. Aycock, Eastern Wayne and Southern Wayne -- recorded first-place times on 18 occasions.
Eastern Wayne's boys placed first in nine of 10 events and compiled a whopping 217 points in claiming the team title. The Warriors' Mason Chenier, who won the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly, was accorded swimmer of the year accolades.
Sidney Myers received coach of the year honors.
Joining Chenier on the winner's podium were teammates Eric Gross (200 free), Xander Robinson (200 individual medley), Spenser Rouse (100 free) and Melvin Shipman (100 backstroke). The Warriors claimed the 200 medley and 200 free relays.
Southern Wayne captured the 400 free relay.
On the girls' side, Charles B. Aycock's Carrigan Chastain emerged the ECC swimmer of the year after taking the 200 IM and 500 free. She also helped the 200 free and 200 medley relay teams collect ECC crowns.
Teammate Sarah Macut touched the wall first in the 50 free and 100 free. However, the Golden Falcons finished second behind Wilson Hunt -- 180-162 -- in team competition.
Eastern Wayne's Bailey Upchurch won the 100 fly and the Warriors also took the 400 free relay.
Hunt swept the team sportsmanship awards.
