SNOW HILL -- Josh Holmes ignited an early-match run and the Rosewood wrestling team romped past Greene Central 64-18 on Tuesday evening.
The Rams, of the Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference, seized a 12-6 lead after the completion of three individual bouts. John Anderson (135 pounds) and Jonathan Jones (140) each pinned their respective opponent, which created a 12-6 advantage.
Holmes quickly stopped the momentum. The 145-pounder pinned Ian Whitson in just 64 seconds to fuel a match-clinching 58-6 run. Teammates Jacob Roberts (152) and Andrew Sass (160) followed with back-to-back falls as Rosewood built a 24-12 lead.
"Josh started us in the right direction," said Rosewood head coach Bill Edmundson. "He has been a team motivator since the beginning of the season. Jacob has been impressive for the past few weeks as well."
Eddie Smith notched the final individual win for Greene Central, a second-period fall over Jonathan Rudolph. From there, the match belonged to the Eagles.
Brandon Dean (189), J.P. Person (215) and heavyweight Trevor Morris each earned a pin. Olivia Neal (103), who is nearing the 100-win mark for her career, and Kelly Cosgrove (112) each received a forfeit.
Andy Seaman's major decision at 119 pounds and J.D. Baker's third-period pin at 125 concluded Rosewood's scoring. Baker led 13-1 before pinning the Rams' James Thomas.
"J.D. is the most-intense worker on the team and I believe he is having fun this season," said Edmundson.
Rosewood (14-9 overall) returns to action Saturday for the Carolina 1-A Conference dual-team tournament. The Eagles are seeking their 12th regular-season league championship.
