Faith Christian placed four players in double figures and earned a 61-48 victory over N.C. Christian Schools Association Class 2-A region member Cornerstone Christian on Friday evening.

Jeremy Sandlin scored a game-high 15 points for the Conquerors. Teammates Taylor Stocks and Austin Webber supplied 14 points apiece.

Brad Floars added 11.

Faith Christian plays host to Liberty Christian of Fayetteville on Jan. 4.

NT sinks W. Christian

Northwood Temple sank six key free throws with less than two minutes to play and handed Wayne Christian a 49-43 loss in Carolina 1-A Christian Conference play Friday evening.

Mount Olive College signee Eric Williams finished with 21 points, 14 rebounds and four assists. Jeremy Jefferson had seven points and seven rebounds. Colton Wood tallied six points and three rebounds.

Markem Bolton led Northwood with 16 points.

The Eagles (4-6 overall, 1-3 CCC) visit Cresset Christian on Jan. 8.

Rebels start strong

NEWTON GROVE -- North Duplin opened its season with a 63-41 rout of Hobbton on Friday night.

Chris Graham had a game-high 25 points for the Rebels and Tyrell Midyette contributed 19. Ryan Killette finished with eight points.

North Duplin (1-0 overall) hosts Lejeune on Tuesday.

Girls basketball

WCS tops Northwood

Wayne Christian sent Carolina Christian Conference 1-A foe Northwood Temple home with a 50-31 loss on Friday night.

Hope Wright finished with a game-high 18 points to go with six rebounds and two blocked shots.

Devan Isenhower added nine points and four rebounds. Brittany Sullivan and Hanna Kaler each had seven points.

The Eagles (5-4 overall, 2-1 CCC) visit Cresset Christian on Jan. 8.

Rebels win opener

NEWTON GROVE -- North Duplin outscored Hobbton 32-21 in the second half and cruised to a season-opening, 52-41 victory Friday evening.

Jessica Pridgen led the Rebels with 20 points and Jodie Williamson pitched in 13. Rebecca Coats had eight points and Katlyn Eloshway added six.

"I think this was our best team effort in a long time," North Duplin coach Danny Blackburn said. "We played very hard and with a lot of passion. I'm very happy with the effort from everyone of the girls."

Shakiera Faison scored 18 points for Hobbton.

North Duplin (1-0 overall) hosts Lejeune on Tuesday.

Rams fall

KINSTON --Greene Central fell to 1-8 with a 42-35 loss at Kinston on Friday.

Shonice Pettaway led the Rams with 15 points. Jocelyn Conner and Tete Pettaway each had six.

Greene Central visits Wilson Fike on Tuesday.

Conquerors prevail

Faith Christian continued its solid start to the season with a 39-21 win over visiting Cornerstone Christian on Friday evening.

Madison Caudle led the Conquerors with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Rebecca Smith scored six points to go with six rebounds and Alyssa Hill had six points and 14 boards.

Faith (5-2 overall, 3-1) entertains Liberty Christian of Fayetteville on Jan. 4.

Gymnastics

Rosewood places 2nd

APEX -- Rosewood High's gymnastics squad finished second out of 24 teams in a meet in Apex on Friday evening.

Sophomore Sarah Conger finished sixth with an all-around score of 38.10 points. Junior Kaitlyn Conger added 36.45 points, which was good enough for 15th place. Sophomore Francesca Verceles-Zara placed 26th with a total of 34.85 points.

The Eagles return to action Jan. 4 in Raleigh.

JV sports

* Wayne Christian boys 48, Northwood Temple 46 -- Taylor Johnson paced the Eagles with 18 points and Gregory Alexander scored a season-high 14. Chase King chipped in nine points and pulled down 20 rebounds. Jordan Crouthamel had six points and nine rebounds. Wayne Christian (2-5 overall, 1-2) will host Trinity of Durham on Jan. 4.

Middle schools

* Rosewood girls 23, Grantham 18 -- Laura Vinson paced Rosewood with seven points and Taylor Brock added six. Andrea Morris led Grantham with 13.
