JACKSONVILLE -- Eastern Wayne senior Tim Wright finished 14th overall during the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 3-A eastern regional men's cross country meet Saturday.

Wright ran the 5K course at Equine Country USA in 18 minutes, 25 seconds. Teammate Zach Parrish, a freshman, ended up 52nd overall in 19:38. Stefan Henshaw (78th, 20:44), Tyler Thornton (93rd, 21:44) and Myles Potter (103rd, 22:30) completed the Warriors' team scoring.

Eastern Wayne placed 13th overall among the 18 competing teams.

Charles B. Aycock junior Nik Fedrick grabbed 32nd place with a time of 19:01. Sophomore Eric Dubose wound up 75th in 20:39, followed by teammates Dalton Denning (79th, 20:45), Jackson Wooten (94th, 21:46) and Chase Bradham (108th, 22:45).

The Golden Falcons took 15th in the team portion of the meet.

Senior Scott Harrell emerged Southern Wayne's top runner with an 88th-place effort of 21:16. Sophomore Kobi Hood was 96th overall in 21:49. Teammates Ray Valazquez (107th, 22:44), Jordan Hood (112th, 23:04) and Leslie Preston (120th, 24:28) rounded out the Saints' scoring.

On the girls' side, Eastern Wayne junior Leanna Kirkland claimed 31st in 23:14. Fellow Warriors Sarah Schley (24:27) and Kelly Gregorcyk (24:40) crossed the finish line 54th and 59th, respectively. Shannon Rouse (64th, 24:52) and freshman Heather Black (69th, 25:07) helped Eastern Wayne end up 11th among 15 teams.

C.B. Aycock sophomore Caroline Schlaeppi seized 46th place in 24:06. The Golden Falcons also received solid efforts from Lorena Estrada (56th, 24:33), Ronjae Perry (87th, 27:12), Megan Hales (90th, 27:37) and Taylor Allen (91st, 27:42). All five runners are underclassmen.

Emily Hudson, Kayla Gracyk and Heather Strickland ran for Southern Wayne. Hudson was 95th, while Gracyk and Strickland captured 101st and 103rd, respectively.

Cougars' season ends

WINTERVILLE -- Goldsboro High seniors Demarkus Herring and Danielle Irby ended their respective cross country careers in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 2-A Mideast regional meet at Boyd Lee Park.

Herring posted a 109th-place time of 22 minutes, 31.7 seconds on the 5K course. Irby finished 71st in 26:57.1 during the girls' portion of the meet.

Gators, Rebels fare well

ROCKY POINT -- Spring Creek and North Duplin recorded fifth- and sixth-place showings, respectively, during the team portion of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1-A Mideast regional cross country meet Saturday.

Alex Casey ran the 5K course at Heide Trask in 18 minutes, 35 seconds to lead the Gators' cause. Teammate John Kearney finished 25th overall in 21:10, while Tim Rogers was 30th in 21:40. Drew Pierce (33rd, 21:48) and Ryan Kelly (43rd, 22:58) rounded out Spring Creek's team scoring.

The Rebels' Justin Hicks earned fifth place overall with a time of 18:18. Clint Bland wound up 13th in 19:36, followed by Kyle Caunette (27th, 21:27), John Caunette (53rd, 24:54) and Caleb Day (55th, 25:49).

Adam Peedin recorded Princeton's top time of 21:01, which was good enough for 23rd. Teammates Chris Dewberry (22:14) and Jason Massey (22:29) finished 35th and 39th, respectively.

Rounding out the Dawgs' scoring was Cooper Chase (44th, 23:00) and Guy Lampe (45th, 23:09).

Princeton's girls ended up second overall in team competition behind perennial power N.C. School of Science and Math. Olivia Booker led the Dawgs' with a sixth-place showing of 24:00. Teammates Maegan Hewett (13th, 25:10), Brittany Rainbow (15th, 25:12), Hattie Dougherty (19th, 25:42) and Logan Keene (22nd, 26:14) helped in the runner-up effort.

North Duplin's Rocio Alvarado took 11th overall in 25:05. Gloria Gonzalez (26th, 27:48) and Arika Maldanado (36th) also competed.
