MOUNT OLIVE -- Nicholas Sheridan collected the eventual game-winning goal in the 12th minute and Pfeiffer University blanked Mount Olive 4-0 in a men's Conference Carolinas soccer match at Amon Field.
Matthew Harris added a natural hat trick (three consecutive goals) for the Falcons, who handed the Trojans their third straight loss. Pfeiffer (8-6-1 overall) exited 4-3-1 in conference play.
Mount Olive (6-9-0, 1-5-0 CC) had a scoring chance in the ninth minute when Joshua Kiser played a long service into the box, intended for a header by Matt Wallin at the right post. But Pfeiffer goalkeeper Alex Moreno (three saves) punched the ball just over the head of Wallin to prevent the shot attempt.
Sheridan broke the scoreless tie on an assist from Patrick Treadwell. Treadwell and Davi Lorenzo combined for Harris' first goal -- a 10-yard shot with less than 15 minutes remaining before halftime.
Harris added goals in the 56th and 70th minutes.
The Trojans pressured late in the match, but Matt Wallin's 20-yard shot in the 79th minute was just wide of the left post and Scott Mitchell's 25-yard attempt went just over the crossbar.
Pfeiffer outshot the Trojans 15-7.
Chase Smith finished with five saves for Mount Olive.
The Trojans entertain in-state conference rival St. Andrews on Wednesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
