PRINCETON -- Princeton captured its first-ever victory over Spring Creek in convincing fashion Friday evening.
The Bulldawgs raced to a three-touchdown lead and coasted to a 35-6 win in the Class 1-A Carolina Conference opener for both teams.
Dylan Myers got Princeton going minutes into the game when he hooked up with Dillon Daughtry for a 70-yard touchdown.
Kevin Foy then took over on the ground. The running back rushed for a season-high 229 yards and four touchdowns for the Bulldogs. Foy had scoring runs of 5 and 58 yards to close out the first quarter.
"The first quarter went really well," said Princeton head coach Russell Williamson. "We felt like we had to get off to a fast start and we did. We had a good night running the ball."
The Gators got on the scoreboard in the second quarter when Alex Dunmire trotted into the end zone from 38 yards out. That turned out to be Spring Creek's lone score.
Princeton collected two more touchdowns in the second half from Foy to make the final margin. Foy scored on a 5-yard run and a 54-yard burst.
Spring Creek remained winless in seven outings. The Bulldawgs (2-5 overall) enter the second week of Carolina Conference play tied atop the league standings. They travel to state-ranked North Duplin next Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Calypso.
"It's been a while since we've been tied for first," said Williamson. "We'll enjoy it while it's here."
