Senior captain David Wilson delivered two goals and dished out an assist as Wayne Country Day cruised past Oakwood School 4-0 on Friday afternoon.

The Chargers (7-5-1 overall) evened their worksheet to 3-3-1 against Class 1-A Coastal Plains Independent Conference opposition. They play Wayne Christian today and travel to perennial league power Greenfield on Tuesday.

Sophomore striker Cameron Ford added two goals for WCDS. Senior defender Jeff Franklin passed out a season-high three assists.

"Jeff played a very smart defensive game with well-played balls on those assists," said Chargers coach Baron Heinemann. "I emphasized to the team to play an organized passing game throughout the match with less stress on shooting and scoring."

Heinemann began substituting freely within the first 20 minutes as WCDS built a 2-0 lead. The Chargers fired 24 shots on goal compared to one for Oakwood, which joined the CPIC for varsity competition this fall.

Heinemann is looking forward to the Wayne Christian and Greenfield contests. Each will have a significant bearing on seeding for the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association playoffs.

"We're going to have two very tough games and hopefully, we're ready for them," said Heinemann.
