Wayne Christian volleyball, men's soccer teams post CCC wins

FAYETTEVILLE -- Katie Daniels delivered a season-high 16 kills and Wayne Christian seized a come-from-behind 19-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-19, 15-9 decision over Class 1-A Carolina Christian volleyball foe Northwood Temple.

Hope Wright and Kaitlyn Kosuda recorded 10 kills apiece.

Brooke Norris dished out 27 assists and Traci Davis served a team-high eight aces.

"(We) started our game out slow, but really stepped it up in the third game, and played an incredible game," said Eagles coach Courtney Chewning. "(There was) so much excitement in the girls."

Wayne Christian continues play Tuesday against county rival Wayne Country Day. The varsity match is scheduled for approximately 6 p.m. at Clifford Gymnatorium.

Eagles earn CCC road win

FAYETTEVILLE -- Matt Davis supplied the game-winning goal early in the second half as Wayne Christian cruised past Northwood Temple 5-2 in a Carolina Christian 1-A Conference match Friday afternoon.

Davis finished with two goals and an assist for the Eagles, who improved to 10-4 overall. Greg Alexander contributed two goals and Brian Alexander tallied the final goal in the 65th minute off Davis' assist.

Bradley Yelverton and Jeremy Jefferson each provided an assist.

Eagles keeper Eric Williams recorded seven saves.

"It wasn't our best performance, but we managed to hold on for the win," said Eagles coach Daryl Anderson. "(We) came out in the second half determined to play physical and win. John Thomas Norris, Matt Rouse and Travis Thomas all had a strong impact for our defense."

Wayne Christian (7-1 CCC) entertains county archrival Wayne Country Day on Monday. The Chargers won the previous meeting.

* Football -- Eastern Wayne defeated North Lenoir 50-6. Jonathan Midgette rushed for a season-high 204 yards and scored four touchdowns. Ryan Jones contributed 189 yards rushing and two TDs. Quarterback Mac Stover completed 4 of 6 passes for 45 yards. Defensive standouts were Dante Lewis, Hunter Newsome and Greg Simms. The Warriors (5-0 overall) begin defense of their Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference title at home Thursday against Southern Wayne.

* Volleyball -- Wilson Beddingfield swept C.B. Aycock 25-21, 25-21. Victoria Benton had five kills for the Golden Falcons, who dropped to 6-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play. Aycock visits Kinston on Tuesday.
