DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne dropped its third straight match, falling to Wilson Beddingfield 2-1 in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference action.

The Bruins broke open a scoreless game with two, second-half goals from Picasso Eduardo. Southern Wayne got its goal from Jesus Rodriguez, his fourth of the season.

In the final minutes, the Saints had several shots on goal, but couldn't convert the equalizer.

Southern Wayne drops to 3-3 (0-2 ECC) and will next travel to Kinston on Sept. 24.

Hawks drop first EPC match

TARBORO -- Tarboro doubled up North Lenoir 2-1 and handed the Hawks their first loss in Eastern Plains 2-A Conference play.

C.C. Croom tallied North Lenoir's only score while Bryce Grady played strong in goal.

North Lenoir falls to 5-6-1 (1-1 EPC) and will next host Kinston on Friday.

Eagles pick up first win

Rosewood picked up its first win of the season, in convincing fashion, as it beat Rocky Mount Prep 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

Elliott Lee led the Rosewood assault with a hat trick (three goals) while Cody Harris booted two into the back of the net. Justin Beldon, Zach Behrend, Ceb Buchan and Zach Fink added the remaining goals for the Eagles.

Rosewood improves to 1-7-1 overall and will next host Ayden-Grifton on Monday in Carolina/Super Six 1-A Conference action.

Tennis

WCS unbeaten in CCC play

Brooke Barfield and Laura Lee Hodson led Wayne Christian to a 8-1 victory over Trinity Academy of Raleigh at Herman Park.

Top seeded Barfield defeated Jenny Pollard 8-3 while Hodson took care of Mary Ashley Carver 8-0.

The Eagles will next host Kerr-Vance Academy on Friday afternoon.

Fike downs C.B. Aycock

PIKEVILLE -- Wilson Fike took four of six matches in singles play to top host Charles B. Aycock 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon.

Courtney Barnes and Kristen Bennett emerged as singles winners for the Golden Falcons.

"We came up short, but the effort was outstanding," said Aycock coach Luke Vail. "Bennett played flawless tennis at No. 4 singles. Courtney also did great."

C.B. Aycock (7-5 overall) plays host to Wilson Beddingfield today.

Eastern Wayne Warriors 25 d. Mt. Olive Hurricanes 15 -- Three long touchdowns parked Eastern Wayne to the win over Mt. Olive. Devonte Corum returned a kickoff 55 yards for a score while Jimmy Parks and Andrew McKeel had scoring runs of 50 yards and 45 yards respectively. Defensively, the Warriors were led by Willis Underwood, Justice Pinter and Anthony Murphy. Eastern Wayne (2-0) next visits C.B. Aycock on Sept. 25.
