Unbeaten Tigers spank East Duplin

BEULAVILLE -- Shawn Jones threw two touchdown passes and state-ranked James Kenan remained unbeaten with a 19-3, non-conference triumph over East Duplin.
Jones completed scoring strikes of 39 and 30 yards to Kendal Jones and Chris Marable, respectively. Jones' second-quarter reception with 4 seconds remaining gave the Tigers a 13-3 advantage at halftime.
Marable's third-quarter catch concluded the scoring.
Shawn Jones ended up with 114 yards on 7 of 21 attempts.
Brandon Satchell paced the Tigers' rushing attack with 156 yards, including a 3-yard touchdown run in the opening quarter. James Kenan used seven different ball carriers, who combined for 215 yards on just 38 totes.
Junior linebacker Josh Hicks emerged the defensive leader with 15 solo tackles, five assists and one fumble hit. Senior linebacker Josh Dixon contributed 10 solo stops, five assists and one fumble hit. Senior defensive back Duan Alston added five tackles, five assists and recovered a fumble.
The Tigers, ranked No. 2 in the Associated Press Class 1-A prep poll, held its 22nd straight opponent to less than 20 points. It's the longest streak in the state.
James Kenan (5-0 overall) claimed its 16th consecutive regular-season victory and is the guest of Greene Central next Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the James R. Fulghum Athletic Complex.
