SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek evened its Class 1-A Carolina Conference worksheet at 1-1 with a 25-16, 25-22, 25-11 victory over Ayden-Grifton on Thursday afternoon.

Kristin Smith hammered out 15 kills to go along with eight blocks and two service aces. Brooke Albertson handed out 10 assists and also had an ace. Ashley Barwick had six assists, two kills and one dig.

Brandi Simpkins added three aces, three kills and three blocks, Tasha Whitfield had seven kills and two aces and Hannah Hall had one ace and one kill.

The Gators (6-1 overall, 1-1 Carolina) visit Rosewood on Tuesday.

Warriors dump Hunt

Missing outside hitter Jordei Osby, Eastern Wayne's role players elevated their level of play in a 28-26, 25-19, 25-23 triumph over Wilson Hunt on the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference scene.

Osby suffered a right-ankle injury during Tuesday's match at Southern Wayne. The senior's status, according to head coach Bruce Burridge, is day-to-day.

"I'm not sure how soon we'll get her back," said Burridge. "With her being out, everybody stepped up their level of play. We covered the court well. They met the challenge, pulled together and got it finished."

Brittani Billups provided a season-high 20 kills to go along with two blocks and four service aces. Alysa Artis (three kills), Anna Hajjar (five kills), Carrie Adams (six kills) and Regan Stoneburner (three kills) all provided quality offensive swings in Osby's absence.

Brooke Newsome dished out 33 assists.

Brianna Williams and Hajjar emerged the defensive leaders with 17 digs apiece. Adams and Stoneburner each collected 12 digs, while Newsome contributed seven digs.

Eastern Wayne (9-0 overall, 2-0 ECC) entertains Wilson Beddingfield next Tuesday.

Rams perfect in EPC

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central picked up its second Eastern Plains 2-A Conference win of the season on Thursday with a 25-9, 25-5, 25-8 victory over winless Goldsboro.

Megan Roberts led the Rams with 15 service points and Tia Jones tallied 12 service points.

Greene Central (4-7 overall, 2-0 EPC) play host to Tarboro on Tuesday.

Dawgs escape Rebels

CALYPSO -- After earning a five-game win over North Johnston on Tuesday, North Duplin wasn't so fortunate in a similar situation.

Princeton remained unbeaten in Carolina 1-A Conference play with a 25-11, 21-25, 25-23, 20-25, 15-11 win over the Rebels.

Heather Hudson set the tone for North Duplin with 13 kills, 10 service points, five blocks, four digs and three aces. Sam Cates tallied 16 service points, seven kills, five assists, eight aces, and two digs.

Katlyn Eloshway chipped in 20 service points, five digs, one kill, an assist and an ace. Angelica Favela had 18 service points, two digs, four aces and an assist, while Felicia Lynch netted 12 service points, 8 assists, three aces and three digs.

Katie Swanzey finished with four digs and two kills.

North Duplin (3-3 overall) fell to 1-1 in the league.

Hawks spank Vikings

TARBORO -- North Lenoir kept its undefeated season alive with a 25-21, 25-19, 25-20 win at Eastern Plains 2-A Conference member Tarboro on Thursday.

Kayla Sutton led the Hawks with 13 kills. Marissa Lanier chipped in nine kills.

North Lenoir (10-0 overall, 2-0 EPC) entertains Rosewood on Monday.

WCDS stops Oxford

Wayne Country had little trouble downing Oxford in three games 25-4, 25-13, 25-16 during their Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference match on Thursday.

Stephanie Sykes led the Chargers with 10 aces, three assists, two kills and one dig. Jessica Lewis was solid around the net, pounding out six kills to go along with four aces.

Sterling Coggins handed out seven assists and had one ace, while Kim Martell had four kills and one dig. Shelly Sullivan had eight assists, five aces and three kills, Erin Taylor finished with two kills and Kayla Flanagan netted two kills and one ace. Emily Best also had a kill and a dig.

The Chargers (6-2 overall) climbed to 4-1 in the CPIC.

Gators stop Eagles

SEVEN SRPINGS -- Spring Creek improved to 4-0 in the Carolina/Super Six 1-A Conference with a 9-0 win over archrival Rosewood on Thursday afternoon.

Jamie Johnson, Mary Elizabeth West, Isabelle Messelken, Rachel Lewis, Jamison Mossberg and Ivey Best each had singles wins for the Gators.

Spring Creek (4-3 overall) welcomes league co-leader North Duplin next Tuesday for a doubleheader.

SNOW HILL -- Puja Patel and Lauren Carraway remained unbeaten in singles play and Greene Central upended Eastern Plains 2-A Conference archrival Tarboro 6-3 on Thursday afternoon.

Patel, Carraway, Elizabeth McLawhorn, Cally Hudson, and Abby Sugg each had singles wins for the Rams.

WARSAW -- With its home courts at Mount Olive occupied, North Duplin played a rare home match at James Kenan on Thursday, and handed the Tigers an 8-1 loss in Carolina/Super Six 1-A action.

Jenny Coley, Rebbeca Coats, Brittany Coley, Elizabeth Lane, Jodie Williamson and Sarah Jackson all had singles wins for the Rebels.

The No. 3 tandem of Morgan Rector-Holly Parrish claimed the Tigers' lone win.

Havelock bests Saints

DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne fell 300-314 to Havelock in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon at Southern Wayne Country Club.

The visiting Rams were led by Jennifer Lowe's match-best round of 75. Sharissa Dice finished with a score of 106 and Alyssa Boyd fired a 119.

Jordan Hill led the Saints with a round of 96. Alyssa Bradshaw ended the day with a score of 108, Taylor Scott carded a 110 and Daren Edwards finished with a 112.

Southern Wayne travels to Willow Springs in Wilson on Monday for an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference meet.

Aycock falls on road

WILSON -- Lauren Larrison shot a 67 and Krista Smith finished with a score of 67 to lead Charles B. Aycock against Greenville J.H. Rose and Wilson Fike on Thursday.

Short on players, the Golden Falcons played just nine holes.

Aycock returns to action at Willow Springs on Monday in the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference meet.

Cross Country

Eagles earn split

Josh Magnus turned in another solid performance completing the 3.1-mile course in 18 minutes, 33 seconds as Wayne Christian's boys defeated Wake Christian 21-36.

The Eagles weren't as fortunate on the girls side, falling 20-43. Logan Dawson finished second for Wayne Christian with a time of 25:42.

The Eagles will host a Carolina Christian 1-A meet on Monday.

Rams still perfect in EPC

FARMVILLE -- Rosewood's quest for its first win of the season will continue at least until next week.

The Eagles fell 3-1 at Farmville Central on Thursday. Hyun Gyu Choi scored Rosewood's lone goal in the 75th minute as the Eagles dropped to 0-6-1.

Rosewood will entertain Wayne Country Day in non-conference play on Monday.

Warriors come close

WILSON -- Eastern Wayne gave all it had but came up just short in a 1-0 loss to seventh ranked Wilson Fike on Thursday.

Gus Partida slipped through the Warriors defense in the 18th minute and beat Eastern Wayne keeper Vincent Hagedorn in the bottom right corner for the only goal of the contest.

The Golden Demons (8-1 overall) held a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal and a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Warriors (2-4) open Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play on the road Monday at Southern Wayne.

W. Christian cruises

SMITHFIELD -- Wayne Christian remained unbeaten in six Carolina Christian 1-A Conference matches with a 9-1 thrashing of Johnson Christian on Thursday afternoon.

Hayden Gardner scored three goals, and Andrew Radford and Matt Davis had two goals apiece.

Shea Glaesman and Chase Darden each found the back of the net as well. Jeremy Jefferson had two assists, and Brian Alexander and Gregory Alexander also had assists.

Wayne Christian (7-2 overall) travels to Wilmington Christian today for the Tidalwave tournament.

JV football

Whitfield, McBride

lead Golden Falcons

WILSON -- Shepard Whitfield and Shalando McBride each rushed for two touchdowns in Charles B. Aycock's 34-20, non-conference victory over Wilson Fike.

Whitfield finished with 107 yards rushing, while McBride added 78.

Golden Falcon quarterback David Gurganus completed 9 of 11 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown to Matt Woodard. Woodard hauled in five receptions for a team-high 69 yards.

Woodard emerged the defensive leader with two interceptions.

C.B. Aycock (2-2 overall) travels to North Lenoir next Thursday.

Cougars crush SW

DUDLEY -- Freddy Jones and Andrew Montgomery each rushed for more than 100 yards during Goldsboro's 34-0, non-conference victory over county rival Southern Wayne on Thursday evening.

Jones tallied three first-quarter touchdowns. Michael Sawyer's touchdown run gave Goldsboro a 28-0 lead at intermission.

Montgomery's 20-yard, fourth-quarter touchdown capped the scoring.

Jones and Montgomery also had five tackles apiece, and Jones added a fumble recovery.

Deante Lender finished with 10 tackles and Vontarius Kornegay added seven tackles. D'arahjae White, Chris Williams, A.B. Scott and Richard Murrell each had five tackles.

Goldsboro travels to Laney next Thursday.

* Girls' tennis -- C.B. Aycock edged Eastern Wayne 5-4 on the John Allen Farfour Courts at Herman Park. Hollie Baker, Abbey Strickland and Nicole Kessler won singles matches for the Golden Falcons. Strickland-Kessler and Amanda Farmer-Alexis Torres, who trailed 7-4, each prevailed in doubles. Miller Delbridge, Janielle Daniel and Joann Talton picked up singles wins for the Warriors.

* Boys' soccer -- Jeraldo Huerta and Gray Phillips notched two goals apiece in the Hawks' 8-0, non-conference rout of Arendell-Parrott Academy. Luke Baird, Paul Barnell, Tyler Sanders and Corbett Hall also scored for North Lenoir, now 1-5 overall. Robb Harrell handed out two assists and Huerta also assisted on a goal.

* Volleyball -- North Lenoir rallied past Tarboro 25-27, 25-16, 25-18. Jenna Rouse supplied four kills as the Hawks remained perfect in nine outings. Kristen Davenport added a match-high 10 kills.

* Volleyball -- Ayden-Grifton defeated Spring Creek 25-8, 25-17 in Carolina 1-A Conference play. Randi Oxendine had two assists, two service aces and one kill for the Gators.

* Brogden football 20, Rosewood 0 -- Moses Ramsey rushed for a 3-yard touchdown and threw a 40-yard scoring strike to Devin Oliver. Oliver also broke loose for a 90-yard touchdown. Antonio Deans (8 tackles), Cory Edwards (6 stops) and Reggie Wynn (6 tackles) led the Rams' defense. Brogden (1-0) visits Eastern Wayne next Thursday.

* Eastern Wayne soccer 5, Greenwood 0 -- Sarah Marquis recorded 15 saves for the host T-Birds. Greenwood (0-1) visits Spring Creek on Monday, while Eastern Wayne (1-0) plays host to Mount Olive.

* Norwayne volleyball d. Mount Olive 25-12, 25-16, 20-25, 25-8 -- The Cobras scored 15 points with Conner Davis and Brooke Doyle on serve. Norwayne (1-0) entertains Rosewood on Monday.

* Mount Olive football 22, Norwayne 0 -- Anthony McKinney had a 72 yard touchdown run, Tyshawn Vann added a 32 yard scamper and Juan Pearsall scored from 41 yards out. Defensive lineman Donald Stewart blocked a punt that led to a safety. Mount Olive (1-0 overall) plays host to Spring Creek on Thursday.

* Eastern Wayne 27, Rosewood 13 -- Jimmy Parks returned a kickoff 60 yards for a touchdown. Andrew McKeel and Devonte Corum added touchdown runs of 40 and 25 yards in the win. Daryl Pittman (6 tackles), Micah Smith (4 tackles) and Jaylen Whitaker (4 tackles) paced the Warrior defense. Eastern Wayne (1-0) visits Mount Olive next Tuesday.
