DUDLEY -- Eastern Wayne sophomore Jasmine Reeves earned medalist honors with a nine-hole round of 41 and the Warriors seized the team lead after the first Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference women's golf meet of the season.

The Warriors recorded a team score of 139 on the Southern Wayne Country Club links, 19 strokes lower than the host Saints. Wilson Hunt (173) and Wilson Beddingfield (192) finished third and fourth, respectively.

Three-time defending ECC champion Charles B. Aycock did not have enough players to post a team score.

Erica Freeman complimented Reeves with a 46, while transfer Paula Webber carded a 52. Courtney Wegman and Madison Sauls also participated.

Jordan Hill paced the Saints with a 49. Alyssa Bradshaw fired a 53, while teammates Taylor Scott and Darian Edwards turned in rounds of 56 and 61, respectively.

Krista Smith led Aycock with a 69. Teammate Lauren Larison recorded a 71.

Hunt will host the next ECC meet on Sept. 17.

Aycock extends streak

WILSON -- Six-time defending Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference champion C.B. Aycock knocked off Wilson Hunt 8-1 for its 305th consecutive conference-match victory Tuesday afternoon.

Kristen Prosser, Courtney Barnes, Emilee Quinn, Kristen Bennett, and Jessica Davis each recorded singles wins for the Golden Falcons.

C.B. Aycock (7-3 overall, 3-0 ECC) entertains Greenfield today and archrival Eastern Wayne for an ECC showdown on Thursday. Both matches begin at 3:30 p.m.

Warriors smash Bruins

Eastern Wayne lost just four games all afternoon and recorded a 9-0 shutout of Wilson Beddingfield on the Wayne Community College courts.

Top-seeded Lindsey Frederick got the Warriors started with a 6-0, 6-0 singles win. Lauren Bynum, Millie Musgrave, Casie Musgrave, Danielle Daniel and Emily Northington also recorded singles victories.

Eastern Wayne (4-1 overall, 3-0 ECC) visits C.B. Aycock on Thursday.

Rebels slip past Eagles

MOUNT OLIVE -- North Duplin picked up two valuable doubles points and edged Rosewood 5-4 in a Carolina/Super Six 1-A contest Tuesday afternoon.

The Rebels' tandems of Brittany Coley-Elizabeth Lane and Jodie Williamson-Sarah Jackson helped North Duplin upend the two-time defending C/SS champions.

Williamson, Lane and Rebecca Coats each emerged victorious in singles.

Rosewood's Missy Bailey, Erica Nichols and Ashli Allen each claimed a singles point.

Wayne Christian prevails

ERWIN -- Despite a slow start and an early 1-0 deficit, Wayne Christian rallied for a 3-1 win over Carolina Christian 1-A Conference foe Cape Fear Christian on Tuesday.

The Eagles (6-2 overall, 5-0 CCC) fell behind early after Mack Williamson put Cape Fear on top in the first half. Gregory Alexander's goal in the 32nd minute allowed Wayne Christian to tie the game at 1-1 before halftime.

Brian Alexander put the Eagles in front for good in the 42nd minute off an assist from Shea Glaesman. Glaesman handed out another assist in the 65th minute, this time feeding Andrew Radford to push the Wayne Christian lead to 3-1.

The Eagles visit CCC foe Johnston Christian on Thursday.

Volleyball

Chargers top Rosewood

AYDEN -- Ayden-Grifton handed Rosewood, the reigning Carolina 1-A Conference co-champion, an 25-18, 25-21, 18-25, 19-25, 15-10 loss in the league opener for both teams Tuesday evening.

The Eagles' Jennifer Hall handed out 15 assists, while tallying 12 digs, two aces and a kill for the Eagles. Paige Babb had 12 assists, two aces and a kill.

Taylor Johnson had 10 kills, nine digs and five aces, while Ashley Williams finished with eight kills, seven digs and four aces. Mary Jo Moore chipped in four digs, two kills and an ace, while Caroline Tart had eight digs, three kills and an ace.

April Pfeiffer had four digs, Ashley Shaw had three digs, two kills and an ace. Melissa Hall had two kills.

Bulldogs topple Gators

PRINCETON -- Defending Carolina 1-A Conference co-champion Princeton knocked Spring Creek from the unbeaten ranks with a 15-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-19, 15-10 win Tuesday evening.

Devon Murphy had 10 kills, eight digs and four aces for the Bulldogs. Amber Wood handed out 17 assists, and had two aces and a dig. Brittany Baker had four kills, one dig, one assist and one block.

Nikki Capps had four digs and a kill, Katie Gibbs recorded five kills, Danielle Mitchell picked up seven digs, and Annamikel Bridgers had two digs and an ace.

Princeton visits North Duplin on Thursday.

Golden Falcons fall

WILSON -- Reigning Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference co-champion Wilson Beddingfield handed C.B. Aycock a 23-25, 25-21, 25-12, 25-15 loss on Tuesday afternoon.

Beth Carter led the Golden Falcons with 14 kills and Anna Sullivan handed out 16 assists, while making some key digs and turning in quality play on the back line.

The Golden Falcons (1-6 overall, 1-0 ECC) play host to Kinston on Thursday.

Cross Country

Eastern Wayne triumphs

Eastern Wayne placed four runners among the top 10 on the boys' scene and put six competitors among the top 10 during the girls' race during Tuesday afternoon's non-conference sweep of county rivals Southern Wayne and Wayne Christian.

The Warriors, paced by Tim Wright's second-place time of 20 minutes, 16 seconds, piled up 32 points. The Saints took second at 42 and Wayne Christian, led by Josh Magnus' meet-winning time of 19:12, took third overall.

Southern Wayne's Chase Gardner ended up third.

Kelly Gregorcyk (24:35), Sarah Schley (24:42), and Sarah Ricker (27:05) finished first, second and third respectively for Eastern Wayne in its 15-45 decision over the Saints.

Logan Dawson recorded Wayne Christian's best effort -- a fourth-place time of 27:10.

Emily Hudson emerged Southern Wayne's top runner with an eighth-place time of 30:10. Teammates Greta Majerle and Amanda Barfield claimed ninth and 10th, respectively.

* Volleyball -- Brantlee Barwick posted three service aces and a kill in the Rebels' 12-25, 25-17, 17-25 loss to Carolina 1-A Conference rival North Johnston. Crystal Robinson contributed four aces. North Duplin remained winless in five outings.

* Volleyball -- Rosewood rallied from an opening-set loss to defeat Ayden-Grifton 19-25, 25-19, 25-17 in the Carolina 1-A Conference opener for both teams. Chelsea Sawkiw had five assists, four aces and a kill for the Eagles,. Rachel Kornegay added three aces, three kills and a block. Brittney Cabala had two aces and a dig.
