ZEBULON -- Eric Rigg's eighth-inning single propelled Carolina to a 6-5 win over Tennessee at Five County Stadium on Sunday evening.
Carolina (31-38) overcame a 5-1 deficit as they answered back with five straight runs, all scoring after the seventh inning. Pinch-hitter Rex Rundgren and centerfielder Johnny Raburn started the inning off with a pair of singles.
After a pair of outs and a walk, Grant Psomas began the comeback with an RBI single. Also with two outs in the seventh, Frank Moore tied the game with a two-RBI triple.
Riggs followed suit with an RBI single an inning later to give Carolina their second lead of the night. The Mudcats led after the fourth inning when Psomas scored off a Ryan Bear groundout.
The Mudcats kept that lead until the Smokies fifth when Matt Yourkin surrendered the tying run. In the Tennessee sixth, the Smokies attacked with four runs. Sam Fuld hit a two-run single and scored the fourth run in the inning which saw nine Smokies come to the plate.
Mudcats closer Chris Mobley came in to pitch a scoreless ninth as his picked up his team-leading 11th save. Jarrett Santos picked up the victory on the town of Zebulon's 100th birthday.
The teams conclude their regular-season series today.
