The Eastern Wayne women's volleyball team shook off a sluggish first-set effort and stormed past Jacksonville White Oak 28-26, 28-9, 25-18 on Tuesday afternoon.

The Warriors remained unbeaten in three outings.

"We were real flat the first game," said Warriors head coach Bruce Burridge. "It was ugly; no hustle, no movement. Then we realized it was time to kick it in gear."

After escaping the first set, Eastern Wayne took control with senior outside hitter Brittani Billups at the service line. The Warriors reeled off 10 consecutive points to put the Vikings, of the Classes 3-A/4-A Mideastern Conference, into a deep hole.

"We got on a roll the second game and started playing the way we were supposed to play," said Burridge. "In the third game, our attacks were better and we scrambled around for the ball better. I hate it took a while for us to get warmed up."

Billups finished the match with 10 kills, seven aces, eight digs and one block. Jordei Osby added 10 kills and four blocks. Carrie Adams contributed four kills, three aces, two digs and one block.

Regan Stoneburner provided two kills, two aces, four digs and one block. Anna Hajjar recorded two kills, one ace, one assist and 10 digs. Libero Brianna Williams delivered a team-high 13 digs on defense and served two aces.

Setter Brooke Newsome dished out 21 assists.

Eastern Wayne visits perennial Carolina 1-A power Princeton on Thursday. Game time is approximately 6 p.m.
