Wayne Christian spikers knock off Community Christian

WILSON -- Brooke Norris and Hanna Kaler turned in strong serving efforts as Wayne Christian swept Community Christian 25-11, 25-7, 25-10 in a Class 1-A Carolina Christian Conference volleyball match Friday.
The Eagles (2-0 overall, 2-0 CCC) raced to an 11-0 lead in the middle set with Norris on the service line. The visitors finished off the host Cyclones with a match-clinching, 12-0 run with Kaler on serve.
Norris and Kaler combined for 11 service aces. Norris dished out nine assists, while Traci Davis collected four kills.

Golden Falcons remain winless
CLAYTON -- Beth Carter pounded out nine kills in Charles B. Aycock's 25-15, 25-20, 25-11, non-conference loss at Class 4-A member Clayton.
Leann Sager served four aces for the Golden Falcons, who remained winless in two outings.
C.B. Aycock travels to Greene Central on Tuesday.

Visiting Patriots turn back WCDS
Arendell-Parrott Academy collected three second-half goals within a 20-minute span and rallied past Wayne Country Day 3-2 on Friday afternoon.
The Chargers (1-1 overall) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the opening half. Cameron Ford connected a 25-yard shot and Will Wolf converted a penalty kick, which was his fifth goal of the season.
Parrott (2-3-1) answered in the final 20 minutes.
"Our boys didn't show up to play today," said first-year WCDS head coach Baron Heinemann. "They got out-hustled. There were a few nerves to shake off since it was their first home game, but overall, they just didn't come to play.
"The game should serve as a good lesson to build from and move on."
Wayne Country Day opens its Class 1-A Coastal Plains Independent Conference schedule at home Tuesday against Greenfield.

Eastern Wayne runs over GHS
Ryan Jones and Jonathan Midgette each rushed for more than 100 yards in Eastern Wayne's season-opening, 28-6 victory over Goldsboro at Cougar Stadium.
Jones finished with 127 yards and two touchdowns on seven totes. Midgette tallied 118 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. The Warriors amassed 409 yards of total offense.
Defensively, Lamar Best recorded six tackles, forced a fumble, recovered a fumble and picked off a Cougar pass. Brandon Williams added a team-leading nine stops.
Eastern Wayne (1-0) entertains South Central next Thursday, while Goldsboro (0-1) plays host to Durham Hillside. Each game kicks off at 7 p.m.

Haile Greenwood recorded seven aces for the Eagles.
Clayton deals CBA a defeat
CLAYTON -- C.B. Aycock claimed the second set, but Clayton prevailed 25-18, 22-25, 25-18 in non-conference play.
Chelsea Larsen notched four service aces for the Golden Falcons. Head coach Sandra Overby said that Miranda Aycock played a "solid floor game" in the three-set loss.
C.B. Aycock (1-1 overall) visits Greene Central next Tuesday.
