WOODBRIDGE, VA. --Starting pitching was the story early as both Kinston's Jim Deters and Potomac's Justin Jones had no-hitters going into the fifth inning of a 4-3 Potomac win on Tuesday night.

Deters, making just his third start of the season, retired the first twelve batters of the game thanks to some outstanding defensive plays.

Justin Maxwell, Potomac's first batter of the game, hit a high fly ball down the left field line that was over the wall. K-Tribe left fielder Jerad Head jumped up at the wall and robbed Maxwell of a potential lead-off home run.

Head would make another great catch in the second inning, sliding feet first for a back-handed grab on a line drive to shallow left by Matt Rogelstad.

Brian Finegan had a diving snag on a liner by Brett McMillan in the third inning to keep the perfect game alive.

Potomac starter Justin Jones was just as good, giving up just one walk and no hits through 52/3 innings.

Jones struck out seven consecutive Kinston batters from the second through the fourth innings.

Kinston finally got to him in the fifth when Jerad Head laid down a two-out bunt to break up the no-hitter. Nate Panther followed with a single and Brian Finegan walked.

Jose Constanza put Kinston on the board with a bases loaded double scoring all three Kinston runners.

Potomac would break up Deters perfect game in the bottom of the inning when Chris Marrero led off with single. Greg Thissen drove him home with an RBI single later in the fifth to cut the lead to 3-1.

Potomac kept the pressure on, tying the game in the sixth inning with two runs on three singles off Kinston reliever Neil Wagner.

Tied 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Kinston's Ryan Edell gave up a two-out home run to Ian Desmond to give the Nationals the lead.

It was Edell's first appearance from the bullpen this season, as the former starter has been moved to the pen for the remainder of the year. Edell (9-5) struck out the first two batters he faced before the solo home run.

Jack Spradlin (3-5) picked up the win in relief for Potomac while Adam Carr recorded his eighth save of the season.

Starter Justin Jones went six innings, giving up three hits, three earned runs and striking out nine.

Kinston takes on Potomac for the final game of the three game series Wednesday at 7:35 p.m. K-Tribe starter Kevin Dixon (9-3) will go for his eighth consecutive win.
