MOUNT OLIVE -- Tim Dunford has been named assistant men's and women's tennis coach at Mount Olive, it was announced by head coach Burt Lewis.
A two-time Academic All-American at Division III Shenandoah (Va.) University, Dunford has served as a tennis instructor, an assistant pro and a high school coach.
Dunford spent two seasons as head coach of the boys' and girls' tennis teams at James Wood High School in Winchester, Va. The boys' team went from a combined total of one win in the two seasons prior to Dunford's arrival to six wins in district play the following year.
Dunford also served as tennis director for Clarke County Parks and Recreation in Berryville, Va., as well as assistant tennis pro at Winchester Country Club in Winchester and Charlotte Racquet Club North in Charlotte. Dunford also spent time as the sales manager for the Greensboro Revolution of the National Indoor Football League.
"We are very excited to have Tim join our program," said Lewis. "He will be a valuable asset to each of our teams with his experience as a player and coach."
The Mount Olive men's tennis team has been nationally ranked each of the last four seasons. The Trojans finished fourth in last year's Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference regular-season standings and third in the conference tournament. The women's tennis team put together a seven-match winning streak late in the season and finished seventh overall in the CVAC.
