Hoadley, Moore emerge overall Classic Champs

KINSTON -- Robert Hoadley and Meghan Moore kept their poise in sweltering temperatures and emerged the overall champions in the 2007 Roy Jones-Clarence Rose Junior Golf Classic on Wednesday afternoon.

Hoadley, from Southern Pines, compiled a 3-under par 68 at Kinston Country Club and overtook first-day leader Wilson Day in the Boys 16U Division. Ranked No. 3 statewide, Hoadley fashioned a 36-hole score of 71-69--140, three strokes lower overall than 18U champion Bo Andrews of Raleigh.

Day lost to Chapel Hill's Rich Leeper on the first playoff hole and dropped to third overall. The two finished at 147, with Parker Hodges (Yanceyville) and Colby Lyles (Roanoke Rapids) tied for third at 148.

Moore entered the final round with a three-stroke advantage over Wilson's Amy Otteson and Wendell's Ashley Denton. By day's end, Moore posted a 2-over par 74 with Otteson five strokes back in the Girls 18U Division.

Madison Overbey (High Point) ended up third at 157.

Andrews needed three extra holes to turn back Greenville's Adam Stephenson. Andrews shot a second-round 75, while Stephenson fired a 73 to forge a tie after 36 holes.

Reidsville's David Sechrest prevailed on the first playoff hole to edge Wilmington's Jackson Taylor third place. Sechrest shot a 1-under par 70, while Taylor had a 3-over 74 on the Kinston CC layout.

High Point's Davis Womble collected a final-round 73 to hold off fast-charging Andrew Decker of Greenville in the Boys 13-14 division. Decker fired a final round of two under par 70 to finish two strokes behind Womble. Womble's two-day total of 141 was two strokes better than Decker and five strokes better than Washington's Joshua Chandler.

Greensboro's Chandler Upchurch successfully defended the Boys 11-12 Division title with a two-day total of 79. Riley Davis (Kinston) ended up one stroke back, while Michael Otteson (Wilson) recorded an 81.

Garrett Wickline (Beulaville) and Bailey Elizabeth Davis (Wilson) seized the Boys 10U and Girls 12U divisions, respectively.

Locally, former Charles B. Aycock standout Ryan Campbell tied for ninth overall with Jacob Colley (Holly Springs) in the Boys 18U division. Kyle Ham, a rising senior at Eastern Wayne, and Aycock graduate Will Vinson each posted a top-20 showing.

Matt Davis (Goldsboro), Josh Elmore (Snow Hill), Hayden Gardner (Goldsboro) and Eric Williams (Goldsboro) also played in the 18U section. Davis and Williams, who play for Wayne Christian, each notched a sub-80 round.

Nick Adams of Goldsboro tied Snow Hill's Landon Elmore for fifth place in the Boys 12U division. Kyle Best of Mount Olive was ninth.

Goldsboro's Bryson Tart competed in the Boys 14U division, while Eastern Wayne standout Jasmine Reeves played in the Girls 18U division.

Four Goldsboro players -- Taylor Gardner, Blake Rousay, Tyquan Best and Bradley Yelverton -- played in the Boys 16U division.
