Mudcats finish first half with win

ZEBULON -- Carolina concluded first-half play in the Southern League with a 5-4 victory over Chattanooga at Five County Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Mudcats (28-42 overall) claimed four wins in the five-game series thanks to Vince Harrison's two-RBI, sixth-inning home run. It was Harrison's third homer of the season and 14th and 15th RBI.

Carolina held onto the lead for the final three innings and finished one game out of last place among Southern Division teams.

Right fielder Ryan Bear sent a two-run shot over the right field fence to cut the Lookouts lead to one. Bear wrapped up the first half hitting .271 with five homers and 26 RBI.

Carolina welcomed Chris Seddon to the ball club. Seddon pitched two solid innings allowing three runs off just two hits. Righty Jarrett Santos came in for relief and pitched four innings, giving up just one run. Santos earned his second win on the season.

The Lookouts started the game strong, scoring three runs in the first inning. Third baseman Enrique Cruz homered off the left field scoreboard, bringing in two runs. Left fielder Tyrell Godwin drew a two out walk and was brought home thanks to a Caonabo Cosme double.

The Mudcats answered with a run in the home portion of the first. Back-to-back triples by Eric Riggs and Chase Lambin brought cut the lead to two. The Lookouts extended that lead back to three in the third by a Jay Garthwaite solo home run.

Mudcats reliever Chris Mobley pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to earn his first save.
