GARNER -- Jackson Massey did his best Houdini impression and Wayne County Post 11 captured a deceptive 11-inning, 14-6 victory over Garner Post 232 on Tuesday evening.

The fifth Post 11 hurler to throw in humid conditions, Massey posted back-to-back ninth-inning strikeouts with the contest knotted at 5-5. Post 232, however, loaded the bases on a double and walk.

Massey's troubles became even more worrisome when he unleashed a wild pitch to move the runners into scoring position. But the rising sophomore at Mount Olive College escaped when Jeremy Hall popped up to Massey to end the inning.

Massey started the Wayne County 10th with a bunt single down the third-base line. He stole second and scored when the Garner defense misplayed John Wooten's hit to left field.

Post 232 tallied the equalizer on Hunter Smith's RBI double. With one out and the bases juiced, Massey fanned Brad Buske on three consecutive pitches. The Post 11 coaching staff planned to intentionally walk Landon Adams, who had three hits.

On a 3-0 count, Adams lunged at a pitch off the plate and flew out to center field.

"I think he wanted to win the game," said Post 11 skipper Brad Reaves of Adams.

Jay Rose ignited a decisive eight-run uprising with an RBI opposite-field double into the left-field corner. Walker Gourley and Massey followed with RBI hits to put Post 11 ahead by three.

Dave Overman and Connor Narron concluded the scoring with a two-RBI double and two-RBI single, respectively.

Wayne County pounded out a season-high 22 hits and remained unbeaten in three outings. Massey claimed his first mound win of the season.
