MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Chris Nowak singled in the tie-breaking runs in the seventh inning as Montgomery handed Carolina its eighth straight loss, 3-2, at Riverwalk Stadium on Tuesday night.

Nowak, who won Monday's game with a homer in the 10th inning against Maruro Zarate, drilled a two-run single into right-center against reliever Craig Molldrem to break a 1-1 tie.

The inning began with starting pitcher James Russ (0-2) walking lead-off hitter Evan Longoria. John Jaso bounced a double inside third prior to Nowak's base hit. Russ allowed only a homer to Longoria, his league-leading 13th, in the fourth inning, fanning three and walking two.

Carolina (20-39 overall) tied the game in the sixth inning on a solo homer to left field by Ryan Bear. Jai Miller socked a solo homer against Dale Thayer, who was pitching for the fourth time in five games. Thayer then saw two more balls hit to the wall, but each caught by Shaun Cumberland.
