WINDSOR -- Lindsay Pearsall slugged her second home run of the season and Southern Wayne dumped Bertie 7-3 in their N.C. High School Athletic Association 3-A playoff game Friday.

Pearsall finished with two hits for the Saints, the Eastern Carolina Conference regular-season and tournament runners-up. Alyssa Bradshaw added three hits, including a two-RBI triple in the second inning.

Brianna Lofton also contributed a two-RBI single in the second inning. Morgan Davis, Meredith Davis and Lauren Darden provided one hit apiece.

Darden gave up nine hits, including seven in the sixth and seventh innings combined. The sophomore right-hander struck out 12, walked two and yielded three runs (two earned) in a complete-game effort.

Southern Wayne (23-4 overall) is the guest of D.H. Conley on Tuesday. The teams split their regular-season series.

North Lenoir upsets Graham

GRAHAM -- North Lenoir pounded out several extra-base hits and upset Mid-State Conference champion Graham 10-7 in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 2-A playoffs Friday evening.

Kayla Sutton cranked out two doubles and finished the contest 3-for-5. Timon Jones doubled twice and drove in three runs in a 3-for-5 performance. Brittany Sanders doubled and collected three RBI in a 2-for-5 outing.

Courtney Hill contributed two hits and Jessica Kennedy slapped a home run.

Sanders had an off night in the pitcher's circle. The left-handed senior survived a nine-hit, seven-walk effort and finished with six strikeouts.

North Lenoir (17-7 overall) visits Bunn on Tuesday.

Baseball

Daughtry's HR lifts Princeton

LAKE WACCAMAW -- Princeton nearly became the third Carolina Conference baseball team to visit East Columbus and come up empty in the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 1-A playoffs.

Until Ryan Daughtry dug into the batter's box.

The senior infielder ripped a solo home run and the state-ranked Bulldogs upended the Gators 4-3 in quarterfinal-round action Friday evening.

"We held on," said Dawgs head coach Bruce Proctor.

Daughtry's homer capped a miraculous late-game comeback. Princeton trailed 3-1 heading into the seventh inning and tied it to force extra innings.

East Columbus, which eliminated Carolina members Ayden-Grifton and Rosewood, concluded the year 13-11 overall.

Princeton (20-6 overall) returns home for an eastern semifinal tilt Tuesday against Coastal Plains champion Topsail.

Tennis

CBA, E. Wayne netters ousted

BURLINGTON -- State-championship hopes ended for Wayne County participants in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 3-A singles and doubles championships on the Burlington Tennis Complex courts.

North Iredell's Travis VanHoy upset eastern regional champion Blake Vail 6-0, 6-1 in opening-round singles play. Vail, a freshman, endured his first defeat of the season.

Golden Falcon freshman Addison Westbrook suffered a 6-0, 6-0 loss against Concord's Owen Bullard.

In doubles, Eastern Wayne's tandem of Jared Stone-Drew Jackson dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Statesville's Thomas Gaither-Tripp Hawkins in first-round action.

Eastern Wayne (16-3 overall) entertains C.B. Aycock (14-8) in the N.C. High School Athletic Association dual-team semifinals Tuesday. The Warriors swept the regular-season series 7-2 and 5-4.

The match begins at 4 p.m. on the John Allen Farfour courts at Herman Park.
