K-Tribe falls to Frederick

FREDERICK, Md. -- Frederick profited from three errors and battered Kinston starter Sung-Wei Tseng in the early stages of a 6-2, Carolina League victory Tuesday evening.

The Keys pushed across four unearned runs against Tseng, who also surrendered five hits and four walks in the first two innings. Tseng issued a bases-loaded walk in the first, which put the Keys in front 1-0.

Kinston's first error and three Frederick hits spearheaded a two-run, second-inning outburst. Tseng, now 0-3 on the season, allowed seven hits and five runs (two earned) in a four-inning stint.

The K-Tribe got on the board when John Drennen drove in Wes Hodges in the second inning. Max Ramirez hit a solo home run, his fourth of the season, in the sixth.

Chris Gimenez went 2-for-3 for the Indians.

Frederick pitcher David Hernandez (3-2), the league leader in strikeouts, picked up his third win on the mound. He gave up eight hits, struck out seven and yielded two earned runs in six innings of work.

Kinston (16-12 overall) lost back-to-back games for just the second time this season, but kept a 11/2-game lead over second-place Salem in Southern Division play.

The teams played at noon today with K-Tribe hurler Frank Herrmann on the mound.
