Eastern Wayne seniors Adrian Black and Kendrick Best have been selected to play in the 2007 N.C. Coaches Association East-West football game in July.

The duo helped lead the Warriors to a program-best eight wins under the direction of fourth-year head coach Jeff Price this past fall. Black has signed with Louisburg Junior College and Best will attend Gardner-Webb.

"They're both very excited and I think they're excited about representing Eastern Wayne at the all-star game," said Price, who has been selected to serve as an assistant on the East coaching staff. "It's an honor to be there and it's going to be a lot of fun."

Black and Best are the seventh and eighth football players, respectively, since 2002 to represent Eastern Wayne in the mid-summer showcase game. Overall, the school has had 13 selections combined in football, women's basketball and men's soccer.

Greene Central senior Brandon Sutton, who has signed with Catawba College, was also picked. Sutton repeated as the Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference defensive player of the year. He is just the second football player and third athlete overall in school history to receive an invitation to an NCCA all-star event.

The Rams posted nine wins and lost in the opening round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 2-A playoffs.

The all-star game is scheduled for July 18 at Jamieson Stadium in Greensboro.

A total of four athletes from the News-Argus coverage area have been selected to play in the NCCA all-star event. Goldsboro High senior Daquan Joyner has been chosen to the men's basketball squad.
