PIKEVILLE -- Shelly Lancaster blasted a go-ahead three-run homer to erase an early 1-0 deficit and defeat North Lenoir 6-1 on Monday night.

Lancaster's cousin, Julia Lancaster later hit a solo home run to finish off the Hawks.

The Golden Falcons pounded out 11 hits led by Emily Jordan who finished 2-for-4 with an RBI while Heather Farmer and Ana Sullivan both tallied two hits apiece.

After allowing a first-inning run, Jordan quieted the North Lenoir bats the rest of the way to improve to 9-1 this season. Jordan allowed one earned run on seven hits, walked none and struck out five in a complete game effort.

North Lenoir got two hits from Kayla Sutton and Courtney Hill while Connor Jordan suffered the loss on the mound by allowing six runs while striking out four.

North Lenoir drops to 14-6 overall and will next face North Pitt today.

Aycock improves to 18-5 and will next play in the Eastern Carolina 3-A Tournament on Thursday.

Rosewood squeaks

past Wayne Christian

Rosewood was able to push two unearned runs across to defeat visiting Wayne Christian 2-1 on Monday.

Haile Meadows picked up the win for the Eagles by allowing only one earned run over seven innings while striking out five.

Traci Davis took the loss for Wayne Christian as she allow two unearned runs on just two hits while striking out nine. Seven walks though game Rosewood scoring chances.

Michelle Krug finished 2-for-2 with an RBI while Cynthia Burroughs added two hits for Wayne Christian.

The loss drops Wayne Christian to 10-3 overall and will next play for the conference regular season title on Thursday when they host Cape Fear.

Rosewood improves to 9-11 overall and next goes to North Duplin today.

C.B. Aycock wins

showdown at NL

LaGRANGE -- In a match-up of defending champions from the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference and Eastern Plains 2-A Conference, Charles B. Aycock came out on top.

The Golden Falcons got a two-run homer from Zack Wright to help Aycock to the 5-1 victory over perennial 2-A power North Lenoir on Monday night.

Thomas Pilkington finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and Bradley Taylor added an RBI double for the Golden Falcons.

Brandon Price improved to 4-1 by allowing one run on six hits, walked none and struck out one in four innings.

North Lenoir drops to 18-3 overall while Aycock improves to 21-3 and will next play at home on Thursday in the ECC Tournament.

Freshmen combine

for Gators' no-hitter

Freshmen Eric Evans and Nick Hatem combined on a five-inning no-hitter against Goldsboro on Monday afternoon.

Anthony Brogden, Adam Hinson, John Mozingo, Kevin Prunest, Nick Hatem, Alex Casey, Jackson Keel and Josh Gammon all contributed two hits apiece for Spring Creek.

The Gators improve to 10-12 overall and travel to North Johnston tonight.

SEVEN SPRINGS -- North Lenoir got a hat trick from Sasha Holeman to pace the Hawks past Spring Creek 6-0 on Monday night.

Lindsay Walton, Brynn Fulghum and Brittany Hill all added one goal each.

North Lenoir improves to 12-7 (8-1) overall and next faces Tarboro on Wednesday.

Rosewood blanks

Princeton

PRINCETON -- Rosewood blanked Princeton 2-0 in Carolina Conference action on Monday night.

Rachel McCormick struck for the first goal for the Eagles and Chelsea Brown followed in the second half with a scoring strike of her own off an assist by Gabrielle Cornman.

The victory improves Rosewood to 10-4 overall and 7-2 in the CC. Next up for the Eagles is a home game against North Johnston on Wednesday.

N. Johnston powers

past Spring Creek

SEVEN SPRINGS -- North Johnston completed an undefeated Carolina Conference season by knocking off Spring Creek 7-2 on Monday afternoon.

The top three seeds for the Panthers all won their singles matches and they took all three doubles matches against the Gators.

Fourth-seeded Daniel Richter got Spring Creek into the win column with a 6-3, 6-3 straight set victory over Chris Johnson. Sixth-seeded Aaron Dunmire later posted another victory by defeating Gabe Pade 6-4, 6-2.

Spring Creek (3-9 overall, 3-3 Carolina) finished tied for second with archrival Rosewood. The two teams will flip a coin to determine who will advance to the dual-team playoffs.

Wayne Christian

drops first match

Wayne Christian put together a solid match, but it wasn't enough as it lost to a hot Cresset team in the next to last conference match of the year.

Cresset shot its best round of the year with a 298 to Wayne Christian's 308, but still is 33 stroke behind with one match left for the conference title. The Carolina Christian Conference ends this Thursday with the conference tournament taking place at Northwood Temple.

Wayne Christian's Matt Davis was medalist with his best round of the year, a 69, followed by Clark Rose (77), Hayden Gardner (78), Taylor Gardner (84) Eric Williams (87) and Andrew Radford finished with a 87.

Hawks clinch

regular-season title

TARBORO -- North Lenoir clinched the regular-season title in the Eastern Plains 2-A Conference by tying for first place with Greene Central with a 308 in the six-team match on Monday afternoon.

Other team scores were Farmville Central 326, Tarboro 395, North Pitt 395 and Goldsboro 435.

Greene Central's Colby Murphy came away with medalist honors by shooting a 69.

Obadiah Speight was Goldsboro's top scorer with a 91.

Middle schools

Princeton softball 10, Selma 7 (8 innings) -- Princeton hammered out 17 hits to defeat Selma on Monday afternoon. Traci Bridgers finished 4-for-5 and was the winning pitcher with 14 strikeouts. Hannah Wood and Nicole Melvin both added home runs. Megan Gerrell contributed three hits while Reandy Hearn added two hits.

Dixie Youth Majors

Wayne County Falcons 3, Rosewood A's 2 -- Jared Rozzi drove in the tying and go-ahead runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for the Falcons who were led by Steven Jessee and Brett Bartlett (home run) with two hits each. K.J. Reavers, and Hunter Dean added one hit apiece. Bartlettled the pitching effort for the Falcons with six strikeouts, who have surrendered only five runs in five games this season. Andrew Medlin and Brice Matthews each contributed two hits for Rosewood. Jonathon Cherry and Dee Mabry combined for nine strikeouts for the A's. Wayne County improved to 5-0.
