ETOWAH -- First-round co-leader Scott Woodard broke away from the pack and captured medalist honors, and Mount Olive College rallied from a four-stroke deficit to win the Independent Collegiate Men's Golf Invite.

Former Wayne Christian standout Jonathan Greene carded a second-round 70 and ended up two shots behind Woodard in second place out of 41 golfers. The duo helped the Trojans seize their fourth tournament title in six outings this spring.

Mount Olive edged opening-day leader Carson-Newman (Tenn.) 607-606 in the team-title race. The Trojans finished Monday's 18-hole round tied with tournament host Brevard for fourth place.

Woodard was one of four golfers tied for the lead after Monday's first round with a 2-over-par 74 on the Etowah Valley Country Club layout. Woodard carded a 1-over-par 73 in the second round Tuesday for the second-lowest 18-hole score of the tournament. Woodard finished with a 147.

Greene overcame a first-round 79 with the only sub-par round of the tournament, shooting 2-under par in the second round.

Three Trojans finished in the top 10 as Mick Moberg tied for eighth with a 76-77--153. Chris Bitzenhofer (78-79--157) finished 11th, while Johan Hagsund (86-80--166) finished 26th.

The Mount Olive College men's and women's golf teams return to action Apr. 22-24 in the season-ending Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference tournament at Winston-Salem.
