Chris Holmes captured three individual events and Rosewood swept the relays during its 110-35 conquest of Class 1-A Carolina Conference men's track foe North Duplin.

Holmes ran the 110-meter hurdles in 16.19 seconds and 300 hurdles in 45.84. He leapt a distance of 39 feet, 6 1/2 inches in the triple jump. Overall, the Eagles prevailed in 16 of 18 contested events on a breezy afternoon.

Bradly Mullens took the pole vault (9-6) and 400-meter run (58.15). Devon Bennett posted victories in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Teammates Clarence Toran (high jump), Marcus Daniels (long jump) and Joseph Willis (800) each contributed an individual win.

The Eagles dominated the relays and ran unopposed in the 400.

On the girls' side, Rosewood's Ashley Summerville turned in her most-successful meet of the season. The freshman won the long jump (13-8), triple jump (27-11) and 100-meter dash (14.22 seconds).

Fellow freshman Casey Binda grabbed first in the pole vault (6-0) and 800-meter run (3:07).

Rosewood also received first-place efforts from Ashley Shaw (shot put), Melissa Hall (discus), Sade Davis (100 hurdles), Jasmine Holmes (high jump), Olivia Neal (400 run) and Jasmine Montgomery (200).

The Rebels won the 1,600 and 3,200 runs, and 300 hurdles.

The Eagles (13-3 overall) competed unopposed in all four relays and collected their first league win of the season in three tries.

Rosewood entertains conference and county rival Spring Creek on April 17. The Eagle boys (13-3 overall) remained unbeaten against 1-A competition (10-0) this season and improved to 3-0 in league meets.

Charles B. Aycock triumphed in six individual events and seized the 3,200-meter relay during a meet contested Thursday.

Megan Hales emerged a double winner in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs, and took second in the triple jump. Teammates Ashley Toler (shot put), Artice Felder (400), Cara Sanders (800) and Crystal Lewis (300 hurdles) each posted a first-place time in their respective events.

Sanders, Hales, Jordan Stackle and Lewis comprised the winning 3,200 relay.

The Golden Falcons settled for second in the 800-, 400- and 1,600-meter relays.

Baseball

North Lenoir squeaks

past South Central

KINSTON -- North Lenoir improved to 13-1 this season by beating South Central 6-5 in the first round of the George Whitfield Invitational.

C.C. Croom was the winner in relief as he pitched three innings and allowed only one run on two hits while striking out one.

Andrew Manning finished 1-for-3 with a three-run triple while Bryce Grady was 2-for-3 and Croom 1-for-2 with two RBIs from the Hawks.

North Lenoir will now face C.B. Aycock on Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Granger Stadium.

Lee County bests

Greene Central

KINSTON -- Greene Central dropped its first game in the George Whitfield Invitational by falling to Lee County 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at Granger Stadium.

For the Rams, Trey Beaman went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and Michael Speedy added two hits in three trips to the plate.

The Rams (4-10) will look to rebound on Monday way they play a to be determined opponent at 1:30 p.m.

State ranked WCS pounds Norlina

Wayne Christian picked up its eighth win of the year by beating up Norlina Christian 16-1 in four innings on Friday afternoon.

Kyle Harrell led the hit parade for the Eagles as he tallied a double and a triple. Jeremy Jefferson added two hits and Tyler Brannan had a double at the plate.

Adam Brannan was victorious on the mound as he limited Norlina to one run on one hit, walked one and struck out seven.

Overall, the Eagles are now 8-3 (3-0) on the season.

Softball

Greene Central shuts

out Southwest Onslow

GREENVILLE -- Elizabeth Webb and Jessica Moore combined to shut out Southwest Onslow 7-0 on Saturday.

Webb got the win by throw four innings while allowing just three hits, one walk and struck out five. Moore pitched the final three innings for the save.

Blair Carroway was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and Stacey Wade finished 1-for-3 with a triple for the Rams.

Greene Central will next face Wilson-Hunt on Monday at 10 a.m.

W. Country Day

turns back RMA

Wayne Country Day seized crucial points at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles, and edged Rocky Mount Academy 5-4 in non-conference action.

The top-seeded tandem of Thomas Elmore-Brandon Davis edged the Eagles' Will Noble-Michael Jensen 8-6. The No. 2 duo of Tanner Pate-Jay Grisette dispatched Seth Miller-Michael Gooding 8-1.

Pate, Elmore and Grisette triumphed in their respective singles matches. Elmore claimed a tiebreaker against Jensen and won 9-8 (5).

Rosewood baseball 13, Spring Creek 8 -- Will Winslow had three hits, including a double, to help Rosewood get past Spring Creek on Friday afternoon. Taylor McGill added a double and triple while Nathan Huyser, Jonathan Franks and Garrett Burns all had two hits apeice. Franks picked up the win on the mound by allow three hits and striking out three. The Eagles improve to 7-2 (3-2).
