Mount Olive diamond 9 hang with Single-A Kinston

KINSTON -- Three solo home runs helped the Single-A Kinston Indians rally past Mount Olive 9-3 in an exhibition game Tuesday night at Grainger Stadium.

Mount Olive got on the board in the first inning when Dustin Richardson singled home Scott Houin. The Trojans added a run in the top fourth to take a 2-0 lead before the K-Tribe came alive.

Kinston first baseman Stephen Head got the Tribe on the board with a solo home run in the fourth inning. Shortstop Josh Rodriguez added another solo shot in the fifth inning to tie the contest.

K-Tribe catcher Chris Gimenez put the Indians in the lead for good with a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh inning. Third baseman Wes Hodges added a two-run single in the seventh. Jose Constanza knocked in two more with a double in the eighth inning.

Frank Herrmann started the game for the K-Tribe, Ryan Edell came out of the bullpen in the fourth inning, James Deters pitched the eighth and Chris Niesel the ninth.

Tom Layne started the game for Mount Olive.

Kinston opens up the season on the road at Winston-Salem on Thursday. The K-Tribes home opener is Monday at 7 p.m. against Wilmington. Mount Olive is back in action today with a 6 p.m. home game against North Carolina Wesleyan.
