North Duplin demolished Union 24-0 in non-conference action on Monday afternoon.

The combination of Rock Bennett and Doug Lloyd combined on a no-hitter for the Rebels.

Will Lewis finished a single short of the cycle for North Duplin, going 3-for-6 with a double, triple and a grand slam. Trea Beavers went 2-for-4 with a homer, Billy Mello added a double and triple while Ryan Killette finished 3-for-5.

North Duplin improves to 5-2 on the season.

Eastern Wayne falls

to Wilson Fike

Wilson Fike squeaked by Eastern Wayne 4-3 in non-conference action on Monday evening.

Chad Gurley led the Warriors by going 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs.

Walker Gourley suffered the loss on the mound for Eastern Wayne.

Softball

North Lenoir one-hits

North Johnston

KENLY -- Brittany Sanders pitched a one-hitter with six strike outs to lead North Lenoir to a 4-0 blanking of North Johnston.

Sanders also helped her own cause by going 2-for-4 at the plate with 2 RBIs while Kayla Sutton added three hits including a double.

North Lenoir (5-2) next hosts Rosewood today.

Wilson Fike bests

Eastern Wayne

Despite a strong outing by freshman pitcher Lani Fricks, Eastern Wayne lost 3-1 to Wilson Fike on Monday afternoon.

Fricks allowed no earned runs on three hits, struck out seven and walked six in a losing effort.

Lindsey Frederick went 3-for-4 to lead the Warriors.

Eastern Wayne next faces Southern Wayne at home today.

North Duplin shut

out by Union

North Duplin fell 1-0 to Union in non-conference action on Monday afternoon.

Jessica Pridgen put in a solid effort for the Rebels in the loss as she struck out seven, walked one and allowed three hits in six innings.

Casey Pate, Elizabeth Lane and Jodie Williamson all tallied a hit for North Duplin.

The Rebels (4-3) next host Hobbton on Thursday.

Golf

WCS extends its

lead in the CCC

Eric Williams shot a 70 to beat all scores in the CCC golf match hosted by Cresset in Durham N.C. on Monday. Wayne Christian was victorious in the match overall by recording a score of 305 to best Cresset (330), Community (355), Cape Fear (390), Trinity (403) and Northwood (465).

Clark Rose and Matt Davis shot 77 for WCS while Taylor Gardner shot 81, Hayden Gardner 82 and Andrew Radford 85.

Wayne Christian extended its lead to 30 strokes over Cresset after two conference matches with four to go.

North Lenoir edges GC in six-team match

North Lenoir shot a combined score of 315 to win a six-team match on Monday afternoon. Greene Central came in second with a score of 320 followed by Farmville Central (358), Tarboro (388), North Pitt (451) and young Goldsboro improved its overall score with a 507.

Josh Elmore was the medalist with a score of 74 for Greene Central.

Goldsboro was led by Iveon Springle, Darian Pittman and Obadiah Speight.

The Cougars next match will be on March 26 at North Lenoir.

Tennis

Rosewood falls

at East Duplin

BEULAVILLE -- J.P. Cummings recorded the lone singles win for Rosewood as they fell to East Duplin 7-2.

The Eagle doubles team of Drew Krieger/Cummings defeated the East Duplin pair of Ryan Byrd/Jacob Pardicso 8-6.

Rosewood drops to 1-2 and hosts Farmville Central on Wednesday.

Rosewood track

teams pick up wins

The Rosewood men's track team improved to a perfect 8-0 (1-0) by defeating James Kenan (50.5) and ENCSD (10.5).

Devon Bennett (100 meters, 200 meters), Chris Holmes (110 meter hurdles, triple jump) and Matt Lassiter (shot put, discus) each won two evens for the Eagles.

The Rosewood women were victorious with a score of 86 over James Kenan (61) and ENCSD (7).

Sade Davis (100 meter hurdles, 300 meter hurdles) and Jamie Andrews (1600 meters, 3200 meters) were multiple winners for the Eagles.

Rosewood improves to 7-1 (1-0). Both teams will next travel to North Johnston today.

Middle Schools

Grantham baseball 12, Brogden 2 -- Terran Fields, Taylor Brock and Keith Jones combined for six strike outs, two hits and allowed two runs on the mound to lead Grantham. Will Broadwell hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs for Bulldogs. Grantham is now 2-1 overall and 1-0 in conference. They will next travel to face Mount Olive on Thursday.

Norwayne baseball 17, Spring Creek 2 -- Alex Champion had a three-run triple to lead Norwayne to the win over Spring Creek. Jonathan Taylor added two hits and three RBIs while Taylor Farmer chipped in with two hits and two driven in. On the mound, Derek Limbaugh picked up the win. Norwayne improves to a perfect 5-0 (2-0) and will next travel to Brogden on Thursday.

Grantham softball 12, Brogden 0 -- Madison Davis threw a no-hitter while striking out 15 to lead Grantham past Brogden. Davis also went 3-for-3 at the plate with a triple. Grantham improves to 2-1 (1-0) and will next travel to Mount Olive on Thursday.

Greene Central tennis 5, Elm City 4 -- Eric Simmons, Colby Chase and Hunter Thigpen led Greene Central to the victory by posting singles victories over Elm City. The doubles team of Simmons/Chase and Hunter Dixon/Thigpen also had victories for the Rams who improves to 2-0. Greene Central next faces Red Oak at home on Wednesday.
