Rosewood's Murray sets Carolina 1-A record in pole vault

Rosewood's Heather Murray established a new Class 1-A Carolina Conference record in the pole vault, but visiting Ayden-Grifton captured the team win during a recent meet.
Murray posted a height of 8 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault and emerged just one four individual winners for the Eagles in a 74-63 setback. Teammates Jasmine Holmes (high jump), Shanita Monroe (long jump), Ashley Summerville (triple jump) and Jamie Andrews (1,600 and 3,200) each collected an individual victory.
On the men's side, Rosewood had several individual winners during its 74-72 nail-biting win over the Chargers. Clarence Toran prevailed in the long jump and high jump. Chris Holmes won the triple jump and Devon Bennett showed off his speed in the 100 dash.
Jordan Adams took the pole vault.
Rosewood won three of four relays.

capture EPC meet
BETHEL -- Kwan McPhail showed off her sprinting and leaping ability during Greene Central's sweep of North Lenoir and North Pitt during an Eastern Plains 2-A Conference meet.
McPhail ran the 100-meter dash in 12.75 seconds and jumped 32 feet, 5 inches in the triple jump. The two individual victories helped the Rams amass 87 points, while North Lenoir (52 points) took second and North Pitt (39) settled for third.
Greene Central's Charlene Williams, Catherine Brewer, Brittney Belcher, Sharnika Williams, Caroline Byrd and Brianna Stanton each earned an individual victory. The Rams claimed the 400 and 800 relays.
Greene Central returns to action Monday at Charles B. Aycock. The meet begins at 3:30 p.m. at Hardy Talton Stadium.

Hales collects
two ECC events
KINSTON -- C.B. Aycock's Megan Hales emerged victorious in the triple jump and 3,200-meter run during a three-team, Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference meet at Kinston.
Hales recorded a distance of 27 feet, 11/2 inches in the triple jump and ran the 3,200 in 15 minutes, 12 seconds. Hales also participated in the winning 3,200 relay that included Chantel Gaines, Crystal Lewis and Jordan Stackle.
Lewis placed first in the high jump (4-8).
Aycock ended up second overall in the 1,600 and 400 relays.
The Golden Falcons entertain Greene Central on Monday.
