C.B. Aycock again triumphs over Princeton

PRINCETON -- In its second matchup in a weeks span, state ranked Charles B. Aycock knocked off ranked Princeton 11-2, in non-conference action on Wednesday evening.

Zach Wright went 1-for-2 with a three-run homer for the Golden Falcons. Joseph Toler added a solo home run, Jordan Carr had two hits and two RBIs, Brandon Price recorded an RBI double and Bradley Taylor finished 1-for-3 with a two-run double for Aycock.

Jay Rose (1-0) picked up the victory by giving up only one unearned run on two hits, walked two and struck out four in four innings of work.

Colin Parker took the loss for the Bulldogs by giving up eight runs on five hits, walked four and struck out six in four innings.

Andrew Cobb had a hit and two RBIs for Princeton.

Aycock improves to 4-1 and will next travel to North Lenoir for another matchup of state ranked teams on Friday.

Spring Creek

bests Union

CLINTON -- Spring Creek pitchers combined to strike out 15 Union hitters in its 5-2 road victory on Wednesday night.

Ray Grady started for the Gators and got a no-decision by allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits while striking out nine in four innings.

Kevin Prunest picked up the win for Spring Creek by pitching three scoreless innings while fanning six.

Timothy Rogers, Lucas Potter, Paul Hayes all had a hit for the Gators while Alex Casey scored two runs and stole two bases.

Spring Creek moves its mark to 6-1 and will host Goldsboro on March 19.

Greene Central

blanked by S. Central

SNOW HILL -- Bryan Avery held Greene Central to no runs and just two hits as he helped South Central shut out the Rams 8-0 on Wednesday evening.

The Falcons pounded out 17 hits in the victory.

Michael Speedy suffered the loss for the Rams. Chris Leggett and Stephen McDonald tallied the only hits for Greene Central.

The Rams fall to 2-5 and will play at Kinston today.

McLamb, Hinton

lead Bulldogs

SPIVEY'S CORNER -- Jared McLamb ripped his first home run of the season and Chris Hinton threw a strong five-plus innings in Princeton's 12-4, non-conference win over Midway on Tuesday.

McLamb ended the day with two hits, including a double, and three RBI. Hinton (1-1) retired 10 Midway batters on strikeouts and yielded four hits in relief of starter Ryan Daughtry.

"Chris has really looked sharp for us so far," said Princeton head coach Bruce Proctor.

Daughtry batted 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Daniel Gerrell delivered a double, triple and three RBI in four plate appearances.

Princeton improved to 2-3 overall.

Softball

Aycock shuts out

Wilson Fike

WILSON -- Emily Jordan tossed seven shutout innings to help Charles B. Aycock past Wilson Fike 5-0 on Wednesday evening.

Jordan improved to a perfect 3-0 by giving up no runs on four hits, walked none and struck out nine.

Shelly Lancaster had a big bases loaded hit to drive home three runs for the Golden Falcons. Jazzmine Lee also went 2-for-3 for Aycock.

"We did all the little things right, but we still couldn't string the hits together -- we left quite a few runners on base," said Aycock coach David West. "It was a big improvement over last week though."

Aycock evened its record at 3-3 and will next face North Lenoir on Friday in Pikeville.

North Lenoir

wallops Havelock

Connor Jordan struck out 13 Havelock batters to pick up the victory for North Lenoir in its 13-2 triumph on Wednesday evening.

Taylor Letchworth went 3-for-5 with a double, triple and three RBIs to lead the Hawks. Brittany Sanders and Emily Brown both added three hits for North Lenoir.

The Hawks improve to 4-2 and next travel to C.B. Aycock on Friday.

North Duplin suffers

first loss to Parrot

KINSTON -- The North Duplin Rebels lost to Parrot Academy 9-7 and lost a key player on Wednesday evening.

Heather Hudson broke her ankle sliding into home in the first inning and will be lost for an undetermined amount of time.

"This team is very close, and Heather getting hurt really threw a kink in our emotions," said North Duplin coach Danny Blackburn.

Brittney Carr and Kristin Jones both tallied two hits and an RBI for the Rebels.

Jones (0-1) took the loss on the mound.

North Duplin drops to 4-1 on the season and will next play Hobbton today.

Princeton falls

short to Midway

DUNN -- Tylan George's bases loaded double brought home two runs to give Princeton a short lived 2-0 lead, before Midway scored three runs in the next two innings to win 3-2.

Amber Wood (2-1) took the loss for the Bulldogs, despite striking out eight hitters.

Hannah Wood went 2-for-3 for Princeton.

Gators have no

luck against Union

CLAYTON -- Spring Creek remained winless in 2007 by falling to Union 14-3 on Wednesday afternoon.

Kristin Smith and Brianna Edwards both had RBI triples for the Gators.

Spring Creek falls to 0-6.

Golf

Eastern Wayne finishes 3rd in match

Eastern Wayne shot a score of 320 to place third in a three team match with New Bern (296) and South Central (309) at Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course on Wednesday afternoon.

Kyle Ham and Nick Barrow both led the Warriors by shooting a 76.

Eastern Wayne opens conference play on March 20 at Southern Wayne Country Club.

Greene Central sweeps

Rosewood

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central took all nine matches from Rosewood on Wednesday afternoon.

Top seed Travis Moore defeated Daniel Ellis 6-0, 6-2 for the Rams.

Other winners for Greene Central included Banks Nimmo over Trevor Morris (6-0, 6-0), Trey Cash over Drew Kriger (6-1, 6-1), Spencer Dail over J.P. Cummings (6-2, 6-1), James Kersey over Josh Fail (6-0, 6-0) and Andrew Harrison over Ravi Chittilla (6-1, 6-0).

Greene Central improves to 5-2 and will next face C.B. Aycock today.

One of Travis Davis' three hits for Wayne Country Day on Tuesday was a home run. Davis finished 3-for-4 for WCDS.
