Judson Smith, who tossed eight shutout innings in nationally 26th-ranked Mount Olive's win over Coker, has been named Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week, it was announced Tuesday. The award is the third this season for the Trojans' pitching staff as Smith joins two-time honoree Tom Layne.

Smith, a senior from Edenton (Holmes HS/Central Missouri State), retired 11 of the first 12 batters he faced and took a no-hitter into the fourth inning in the Trojans' CVAC series-opening 8-0 victory at Coker Saturday. He allowed only four hits in the win, all singles. Smith struck out four and walked none as only two runners advanced past second base. The win improved Smith to 4-1 on the season and lowered his earned run average to 2.25.

Mount Olive (19-8 overall, 7-2 CVAC) won its third consecutive conference series, taking two-of-three on the road at Coker. The Trojans also split a two-game series last week against No. 24 Francis Marion.
