Local Roundup: Aycock softball team falls to D.H. Conley

GREENVILLE -- D.H. Conley held Charles B. Aycock to two hits as they blanked the Golden Falcons 3-0, in non-conference action on Friday evening.

Jasmine Dobbin and Shelly Lancaster scratched out the only hits for Aycock.

On the mound, Julie Lancaster suffered the loss by giving up three runs on six hits, walked six and struck out six in six innings of work.

"We've been playing a lot of softball lately," said Aycock coach David West. "It's going to be nice to have two practice dates on Monday and Tuesday. We have a lot to work on and we hope that we can fix what's wrong and stay positive about the stuff we're doing right."

Aycock will try to right the ship on Wednesday when they travel to Wilson Fike.

North Lenoir

shuts out Vikings

LaGRANGE -- Connor Jordan threw a complete game shut out to lead North Lenoir to a 10-0 victory over Kinston on Friday evening in non-conference action.

Jordan allowed only one hit in seven innings while striking out seven.

Kayla Letsworth went 2-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBIs for the Hawks. Brittany Sanders added three hits and two RBIs while Jordan helped her own cause with two hits of her own and two RBIs.

North Lenoir, now 2-2, will travel to face Eastern Wayne on Tuesday evening.

North Duplin

downs Parrott

CALYPSO -- Jessica Pridgen improved to a perfect 3-0 to lead North Duplin to a 5-1 non-conference victory over Parrott Academy on Friday evening.

Casey Pate has two RBIs for the Rebels while Kristin Jones went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.

"I was very proud to see the girls be so mentally tough in a tight game -- they worked very hard today as a team ... everybody contributed," said North Duplin coach Danny Blackburn.

North Duplin next hosts Union on Monday.

Spring Creek

falls to Midway

DUNN -- The Lady Gators fell to 0-5 this season with a 10-0 loss at Midway on Friday night.

Trailing just 2-0 going into the fifth, Spring Creek allowed eight runs in the inning as the run rule kicked in.

Casey Coor had one hit to lead the Gators offensively.

Spring Creek will play at Union on Wednesday.

down Kinston

SNOW HILL -- Tyler Chase went 3-for-4 and drove in a run as Green Central beat visiting Kinston 8-1 on Saturday.

Justin Everett was 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Rams (2-3) as Michael Speedy picked up the win on the mound.

Josh Lovett went 1-for-3 and drove in a run for Kinston, which committed five errors in the contest. Landon Debruhl took the loss.

The Rams will be back on the field Tuesday as Greene Central plays a 4 p.m. contest at Spring Creek.

fails in extra innings

AYDEN -- Greene Central and Ayden-Grifton stayed dead locked at 1-1 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning when the Chargers would capitalize on six Ram errors to score six runs and defeat Greene Central 7-1.

Michael Speedy went 2-for-3 with a double to lead the Rams. On the mound, Scott Murphy was the hard luck loser for Greene Central.

Southern Wayne

falls on the road

GREENVILLE -- D.H. Conley pounded Southern Wayne starter Tyler Edwards for seven runs in three innings as they defeated the Saints 9-2, in non-conference action on Friday evening.

Sterling Grice went 1-for-1 with an RBI for the Saints while Garrett Barfield and Doogie Niemond both added a hit.

Southern Wayne drops to 2-3 and will next face Wilmington Ashley on Tuesday.

down CBA

PIKEVILLE -- Fike scored four times in the first half en route to a 6-0 victory over Charles B. Aycock on Friday night.

The Lady Falcons fell to 3-2-1 with the loss.

Aycock will return to action Friday at 4 p.m. with a non-conference contest at Princeton.

Ayden-Grifton

AYDEN -- Greene Central routed Ayden-Grifton 11-3 in non-conference action on Friday afternoon.

David Stallings and Jasper Jones both tallied two hits and a RBI for the Rams.

Jones (2-0) picked up his second win of the year on the mound.

Greene Central improves to 3-1 and will host D.H. Conley on Tuesday.
